Keep your Gmail inbox neat and tidy by turning your emails into Todoist tasks. The integration is available as a Google Chrome extension or a Google Workspace add-on. Learn the difference between the two, and how to set up, use, and remove the integration.

Note

The standalone Todoist for Gmail Chrome extension was retired on June 30, 2026. If you used it to add emails as tasks, switch to the Google Chrome extension below, which includes built-in Gmail support.

Install the integration

When installing the Gmail integration, you’ve got two options:

IntegrationAvailable toInstall on
Google Chrome extensionAnyone who uses a Chromium browserAny desktop with Google Chrome
Google Workspace add-onAnyone who has a Gmail account or Google Workspace account

Gmail web app

Gmail for iOS

Gmail for Android

Warning

Due to limitations in the app, email links in tasks created through either the Chrome extension or Workspace add-on will open only in Gmail in a web browser window. These links won't open in Gmail for iOS or Android.

You can use both simultaneously or stick to one, whichever works best for your workflow.

Create tasks, complete tasks, view your projects, and more—all without needing to open a new browser window.

Open emails through Todoist

In Todoist, click any task created with the Chrome extension. A new browser window will open where you can view the email.

When you add an email as a task using the Chrome extension, only you can open the email link – it opens directly in your Gmail. If you're working in a shared project and want teammates to access the email content too, forward the email to the project instead. The forwarded email body becomes a comment attachment that everyone on the project can see.

Remove the Chrome extension

If you no longer want to use the Chrome extension to add tasks from Gmail, follow the steps in the Google Support article to remove it.
