Usage limits in Todoist

Usage limits help keep Todoist fast, stable, and reliable for everyone. Learn about your general account limits, usage limits for those on the Beginner plan, and the reduced limits you get with Todoist Pro or Todoist Business.

General limits

These limits apply to all Todoist accounts, regardless of your plan:

Why place a 300 active task limit? Why cap projects to 500? These limits ensure Todoist stays fast, stable, and reliable for everyone. Having too many active tasks in a single project can slow syncing down and increase the risk of performance issues. It applies to all plans, including Todoist Pro and Business, so there's no option to increase these limits. That said, we're working to make our sync engine faster, so we can increase these limits.

Personal limits

These limits differ depending on whether you're on the Beginner plan or a paid plan:

If you’re often hitting these limits, one helpful approach is to split large projects into smaller ones and use sections to organize tasks by topic (for example: “Movies,” “Budget,” “Household,” or “Gift Ideas”). This keeps Todoist performing at its best and also makes projects easier to navigate and maintain. ✨

These limits differ depending on whether your team is on the Free plan or the Business plan:

Ramble limits

Todoist now includes freemium access to Ramble.

Those on the Beginner plan can try Ramble with up to 20 sessions per month, which reset automatically on the 1st of each month (UTC). Each session counts once you start dictating, even if you decide not to add the tasks. You can upgrade anytime to unlock unlimited sessions and keep capturing tasks hands-free.

Todoist Pro and Business customers will continue to enjoy unlimited sessions as part of their subscription. However, in rare cases, some rate limiting may apply to keep the feature working smoothly.
