Never worry about lost tasks, empty projects, or missing comments. With a paid plan, Todoist automatically creates backups of all your active projects, so you can easily restore them at any time.
Todoist creates a full backup on days when you’ve logged in and made any changes to your account. Up to 21 backups are created and stored as ZIP files. Your projects are backed up as CSV files, so it’s easy to export or import back into Todoist. Whenever Todoist creates a new backup, it automatically deletes the oldest backup.
Every Todoist backup includes the following:
- Active projects and tasks
- Dates and time
- Task duration
- Deadlines
- Recurring dates, excluding start dates
- Up to 500 comments per task
- Links to file attachments
Completed tasks and archived projects aren’t included in a backup.

- Click your avatar at the top-left.
- Click Settings.
- Open the Backups tab. If you've turned two-factor authentication on for your account, copy the one-time password from your authentication app to access your backups.
- Click Download next to a backup. This downloads a ZIP file containing CSV files for each of your active projects.
- Extract the contents of the backup to your computer.

Click Create Backup at the top of your backups tab to manually create a backup of all of your active projects.
- Create a new project.
- Click the three dots icon at the top-right.
- Select Import from CSV.
- Drag your project CSV file to the upload window, or click Upload from your computer.
All the active tasks, dates, comments, and file attachments from the project CSV file will appear in the new project. If you're using a list, board, or Week view of the calendar layout, Todoist retains the layout in the new project.
