Unable to record audio note on Google Chrome/Win 7

I'm trying to record an audio note to a task, but keep getting a pop-up box which says "Your browser does not seem to support HTML5 Audio recording :-("

I'm using the latest verison of Google Chrome (36.0.1985.125m

Help appreciated please.

Hello Vaughan,

Please tell me - are you using the web-app in the browser directly or the Chrome Extension or Gmail Extension for Chrome?

It should work with the full site, but won't through extensions as Chrome doesn't allow any file uploads through extensions (so the recording couldn't be saved).

I'm actually using the Windows desktop app. And I'm using Win8.1 on my laptop, but my desktop PC is Win7.

Vaughan,

This will unfortunately not work either. Our Windows app also uses Chromium and behaves like a Chrome extension, therefore - not allowing file uploads or voice notes. Please try to use regular Chrome and let me know if you see the same error message in a regular Chrome window at https://todoist.com

I'm having the same issue - what do you mean by 'use regular Chrome'? I have tried the Windows 7 desktop app and the website version and have deleted the extension in Chrome, but still have the same problem

Hi Shuna,

Sorry to hear about that! Voice recording is still not available in the Windows app, unfortunately. Though we are preparing some important updates in the near future.

In the meantime, could you please use the regular web version of Todoist? Just open your browser, type in todoist.com and log in to your account. You should be able to record audio there.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I have tried launching from my browser (I deleted all Chrome extensions) but am still unable to save or attach a voice recording.

Any suggestions? I am using windows 7 and Chrome as my browser

Is it possible that your computer doesn't have a microphone? Are you using a laptop or a desktop?

When you try to record audio, and it shows you an error, could you please try to click on the red x icon at the top address bar of your browser and choose "always allow todoist.com to access your microphone"?

Hi Shuna,

I can see in your screenshot, that the recording option is actually working (it has already recorded 28 seconds). Then you should click on Stop when done and attach the audio.

Shuna,

Could you please try to log out from your account and clear the cache?

Go to Advanced Settings -> Content Settings -> All cookies and site data, search for "Todoist" and delete all found entries.

Then back in and try again. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Hi Shuna,

Can you log into Todoist while in the Incognito Mode? Do you get the same problem still? Also, can you try using other browsers to see if you get the same issue?

Hi Shuna,

Do you have Firefox installed? If not, can you try installing it and see voice recording works better in it. Unfortunately, older version of IE does not support HTML5 features.

Can you also try adding cloudfront.net as an exception in Chrome and see if that helps? I just tried doing a test on my end and so far recording a voice note works properly.

Lastly, can you try uploading a picture? Does that work? I'm trying to narrow down if the problem is just with voice or if it affects uploading any files to our server.

I've had a real problem with firefox - I downloaded it twice and can't get it to launch. Not sure what the problem is...
The cloudfront.net link won't open a webpage - it says the DNS lookup failed
I can confirm that I have been able to upload a picture - no problem.
I then got an email from todoist with the offer of a free upgrade to Premium for a month - I have been able to successfully upload audio, save it and play it back! I hope that piece of good news will help in your search for where the problem lies with the free version. So, for the next month, I will be using Premium.
I will let be in touch when I go back to the free version if there is still a problem.
