Location based reminders ignore due date

I have several tasks that using location based reminders and it seems to ignore the due date and notifications are triggered for task based on my location only not when they are actually due.

For example if I set a task as due on Monday and with a location based reminded I should only receive a notification on Monday when I am at that specific location. I should not receive a notification every time I am at that location.

Hi Adam,

To be clear, you have two reminders for a task. One being a normal timed reminder, due Monday, and one for Location?

Location reminders will always go off if you are in that location. We will look into improving this in future updates.

No, I only have a single reminder set. The tasks have a due date set and a single reminder for a given location.

Hello Adam,

As Brendon mentioned, location reminders only go off in the certain location (or, a 100m radius around the area, for that matter) and the task's date, time and/or other reminders don't affect it - you'll get the reminder each time you're in that area.

We will consider improving this, though or add an option to link location reminders to dates or times.

Best regards,

Please do, with them ignoring due date it severely limits the usefulness of location based reminders.

As it's designed now, that sounds like the correct behavior - the only reminder set is location, not time/date dependent. Much like you can set a reminder for a time that is weeks before the actual due date of a task - the reminder fires regardless of when the due date is.

However, I think that it would be good to have a reminder form like Adam is seeking, where there is both a location and a time/date component, so you could specify that if I am at a location AND it is within one week (one day, 4 hours, etc) of the task due date, fire this reminder. OR it could be a form like if I am at a location AND it is July 16 at 9:00 AM or later, fire this reminder.

Plus one.

Love the new location reminders. Would love to see the ability to combine time and location for reminder. This would be a great feature for the next release.

Example: remind me on weekdays only, to do something when I leave the house.

+1 for an AND/OR function to combine time and location reminders.

+1 Would be more useful is you can combine them. Ex. I create a task to get something from the store on Tuesday so I set a due date on Tuesday and a reminder on store location. I don't want it to remind me on Monday if I pass by that store because on Monday it's closed.

Start dates might help solve this as well. A location reminder would not trigger unless it was on or after the item's start date.

Example: I need to refill a prescription, but not until after a certain date. I don't want to be reminded until after that "start date".

I TOTALLY agree that location based reminders need to consider time. With out relating the two location based reminder are almost totally worthless, at least for me. I suppose if there is a place, like the auto parts store, that I rarely go to but next time I do I want to make sure and get X, the I could set a location based reminder for the auto parts store and it would work to remind me to get X. But, at least for me, that is rare. Most of the places I go to I go to all the time. For example if getting some supplies on the way to work. I leave my house almost every day, but I only go to work on weekdays. If on friday I set a reminder to get my supplies when I leave home it will be reminding me all weekend for something I want to be reminded of on Monday. If as Adam had recommended it considered the due date then I wouldn't get reminded until Monday when I wanted to be reminded.

I have looked at a lot of task management apps and a lot of reminder apps. All of them that add location based reminders make the same mistake you have. Please be the first one to fix this issue and you will have a very unique and GREAT featue.

Same situation described by Kurt. Location reminders without any care of due date (or time) are quite useless for me! :(

+2 - going to have to disable the location reminders I've set up until they can handle the relevant date.

+1. I'm here for the same reason. Would love to have [location + time/date] based reminders, rather than simply location.

I don't have to put out the trash when I get home every day. ;-D I only need that reminder on Thursdays.

A slick implementation that might be a good reference is that of AVX (or EVA) for Android, which allows one to specify location based reminders as, for example, "when I go past the post office heading south after 5PM".

My one and only beef with that implementation is that I cannot specify a radius, and living in a small town as I do I am often near enough to a location for which I've set a one-time reminder that AVX issues the reminder and then, because it's done, forgets all about it.

I'd be insanely thrilled for Todoist's location based reminders to incorporate date/time, and completely delirious if it also incorporated a radius specification.

I agree with the use of Start dates long with the use of And/Or capabilities.

For example, I want to be reminded to do something, for a specific date, when I get to the location that I frequent (Office. Home, Pub, Club, Jobsite etc.)

I like the location based reminder, but was disappointed when I discovered, like others before me, that it is not tied to the date of the task I added it to. I only want it to go off one day a week for this particular task, but instead it goes off every time I leave the house.

Agree with everyone. From my point of view this is a must for the complete functionality of location reminders.

Location reminders is an amazing feature, but it would be even better if this alerts could be combined with dates. I mean, I have a task to be done next monday when I arrive home, and now I receive an alert every day when I arrive home, and sincerely, it's annoying.

Wouldn't it be better if I only receive the location alert on the day I have to do the task and after (in case I forget to do it)?

Location based reminders are awesome and have the potential to take Todoist to the next level. Although, I really need another dimension added to location based reminders in order to make it useful. For example, I would like a reminder to pay the day care bill when I arrive at the day care provider, but only on every other Friday when it is due. As it is now, I receive a reminder every day when I arrive at the day care provider.

Do we know when the future update is likely to come that includes this fix?

Nudge to the feature suggestion. Reminding one every time that one enters the location causes the reminder to be ignored. We need timely notices.

Nudge, bump, +1 and all of the above. Location+time/date based reminders would be very much appreciated.

unlucky - it does not.

The version has jumped from 402 to 605 and its the same app just styled slightly differently (brash red header, different 'check boxes' for completing tasks.
