How do I add a filter to filter the tasks only a certain person?
Unfortunately, it's not possible to search for tasks assigned only to one person, but you could try to include this in your queries:
:all: & !:to_me:
This will show all tasks assigned to everyone (or unassigned), but not assigned to you.

I agree - we are on the trial now and I think this could be a deal breaker - I'm the owner of our company and I need to see how much is assigned to each person on our team, not just myself vs everyone else
Excellent Ryan! I miss such a feature to manage a large team with a relatively high flow of work. Today I can not predict everything that attaches to a person, and whether I can put more tasks to that person.

Yeah it is a must - is there any suggestions someone has for organizing employees tasks somehow? Otherwise it is going to be a mess of 300 to-do's in our team inbox. I thought about not using the assign to person at all and just putting projects into individual folders / projects for every employee. Then the team inbox would be not assigned. Would this work?

You need to be able to filter tasks per person.
This gives an overview of all tasks assigned to one person, this can be printed or referred to for work in progress purposes.
If you have many people to deal with, it would seem to be the only way.
No doubt! When you have a lot of people and projects is infeasible to know what each has to do ;(

+1, i would love to see this, too. it's one of the reasons I have NOT gotten my team on a business plan. I manage a team, and I need to see who has been assigned what to follow up.

By seeing how many people who wants this feature, I just don't understand why you're not doing it.

I've been using todoist a lot and I love it. I also really appreciate the very quick answers from the support team.
However, I'm often upset by answers like "no, you can't do this but you can do that" and it ends up being something totally different...as if we were stupid enough to take it and leave it...
If we ask for something it's because we to do it, not something else...
What? No filtering by assigned person? How can you manage multiple teams with multiple project managers if you can't filter per person assigned?

There isn't any update on this filter feature, but we read every post and the more users there are asking for a new feature the greater the chance of it getting implemented so keep posting here! And thanks to all for the feedback.
The main reason I chose this software was the need to manage workload along with multiple projects. There was a disconnect between positions understanding why others weren't able to complete their tasks by the assigned date, not realizing that person had tasks assigned from other departments as well.
Filtering by person would allow us to better schedule tasks based on current and future workloads.
The only workaround is having that individuals name (or position, initials or unique keyword) added in the notes field and querying that.
A more elegant solution would be great!

Seriously, i am considering Todoist for my company. I have hundreds of projects. how am i supposed to balance the workload on every employee? how can i be sure i didn't forget to assign tasks to someone who ain't doing much of his/her time?
Without this function, unfortunately it becomes quite complicated. ;(

We can't give either. Its not a no, but its not a yes. Its on a list, we see that people want it and its likely to be added, we just don't know when.
clearly TODOIST needs to use its own software to manage client priorities.. not knowing if and or when a solution will be implemented and in addition having customers beg for a critical feature to be added is poor customer management.... already looking for other software with this functionallity so I can switch. thanks TODOIST.

I suggest you tell your developers to stop whatever else they're doing and get this done instead.
I've been trialling Todoist and have liked what I've seen until now. But as lots of other have said this is an obvious must-have feature. Without it you don't have a business solution at all.

The moment i find another alternative, i'll switch to it, unless TODOIST give us a time frame to implement this.
I manage a team of programmers. I know it's 2~3 days task. A couple database queries and adding a link in the filters page.... okay maybe 1 week... !
Really like the software, also on a trial, this is a deal breaker for my client too, so I think we'll have try something else :(
Guys, it's really disturbing to see a couple of pleas from many premium customers that are being ignored, despite many rock solid arguments. People are running businesses and of course they'd love to be able to:
- sort the tags
- group the tags in hierarchy, nested as we please
- get simpler filtering and finding tasks assigned to coworkers the fast & easy way.
Since TD obviously won't implement this, let's recommend Trello that has a great filtering options and you can save the searches for tasks assigned to others.
I'm staying with Todoist with my personal business and a couple of "two people" projects, but everything else is in Trello and Asana, the choice of tool mostly depending on my collaborational team's preferences.
Have only recently starting sharing projects and really surprised this function is not available.
Me too. I recently started sharing projects and without this, it is making project sharing a lot less useful.
If you can't 'filter' this way, how about something that automatically adds/removes a label to anything that is assigned to someone else with their name in it so that I can search via this label. Having to do this manually as was a suggested work-around is annoying.
we need this function as well. For business use it's absolutely necessary! We don't want to ask our empoyees what they are doing now and next. That's the reason why we implemented TD!
I think, this filter-function is still a very small extension and could be realized very quick, if you want. ;-)
Yes, in deed, it's quite simple to do.. and i don't know why it haven't been implemented yet... TD won't even tell when will they add that?

I am inclined to guess that something within the structure of the program keeps them from implementing the feature since the are so evasive with regard to the timeframe.
If that is the case, please tell us that there is a slot missing in your database or something to the extend of that.
If this takes much longer I will strongly consider going back to remember the milk. :/

@romandobicki , It's not a database problem. how would i be able to filter my own tasks if there was a missing slot in the database?
And if if this was the case, who said new slots can't be added? we do that all the time, adding new fields to databases, importing, transforming, exporting, etc...
There is no excuse not to do it, as far as i can understand.

However I think it would help us understand the issue here, if the programmers had "coded themeselves into a corner" in any other way and would care to elaborate the problem.

This is an essential feature for us, and one i just assumed was possible. Without it the team functionality is severely hampered. Any help you guys can provide in moving this up the priority list, would be much appreciated!

tic.toc.tic.toc... This issue has been requested since July 2014...! Can't believe that in almost 9 months TODOIST has not been able to implement a solution that CLEARLY we all need.

If the tasks are stuck in several projects it is difficult to do that.
I either go through every project or I start asking them for their account details to filter for their tasks.. which would be pretty nonsensical.. :/

honestly this really exposes the weaknesses of using todoist vs asana or other team management service used in a business setting. this should be a top priority in terms of keeping users and staying ahead of competitors.
At least give us some API calls so that we can print out a report of the tasks per employee...

I think the best way to deal with this is financially. Too many of Todoist's staff respond to these types of threads with "We're looking to add it in the future." Well, I'm looking to add about seven figures to my weekly salary, does not mean it will happen.
A clear response would be appreciated. If Todosit does not have the engineering to pull of this feature, please be straight forward.
The reason we respond like this as it's the only genuine and honest answer we can provide. We can't promise you a release date for any feature as we always focus on getting it right even if it means postponing the release a few times. We also can't say that we'd never add it as it's also not true, we will continue to add new features for years to come and something like filtering tasks by assignment would definitely be a great feature to have so we are looking into adding it, but can't say when exactly unless it's very close to release.

I ask because we need to further evaluate the worth of your tool and it would be helpful to see what you have improved.

We read every single thread in all languages :-) We don't respond because we still don't have news about that. It's in our plan to implement this feature but we can't provide the exact date yet.

Any updates on this? We're currently trying out Todoist for Business with our team, but this might be a deal-breaker for us. It would be nice to hear if this feature is currently on the roadmap at all or if it's still in the "we're thinking about this" bin.

Other than this, Todoist is looking really good.
I can confirm that it is still in our roadmap but this is not a trivial feature and must be implemented properly. We're hoping to improve team collaboration within Todoist and that release may include filtering users assigned to a project. :-)
Clyde, what we are all asking for here is not "filtering users assigned to a project"
What we want is to be able to filter tasks by person. period.
We - managers - need to know the work load on each and every one of our team members.
Sorry for the confusion! What I meant was that filtering tasks by person is indeed on our list of features to add.
Whilst what is being promised is an improvement, it hardly addresses what your customers and users are asking for, does it?
Your customers are asking for a coffee. You don't promise a cup of tea and suggest that will do because making coffee has to be done properly.
How about an apology, and an explanation of how serious this feature is (we kind of know that which is why it is requested) and for the moment it is still on the radar but not scheduled for release? A simple apology would go a long way to placate me. Mind you, I am sure you would make your happy customers (I'm one) completely ecstatic if you provided the ability to view tasks by name and project in every instance. Then we'd be able to follow them all up Todoist!

Once again i have found myself stumbling upon a bunch of "forgotten" tasks of one of my lazier interns.
I have started assigning lables to tasks again. Please stop this redundancy.
So it turns out that assigning lables to tasks only makes sens for my own tasks.
Searching for "@nameofcooworker" if the task is assigned to someone else gives me no results.

So sorry about this! As mentioned in my previous post above, this is something we're hoping to address in a future update.
For your problems regarding the label, please try searching ":all: & @nameofcooworker" so you can search for tasks that are assigned to someone else.

Each task that is assigned to a coworker no hast an equvalend lable "@nameokfcoworker"
-- I have set up filters for each coworker by filtering for said lable.
-- I have set up an additional filter to check for all the tasks that are not my own tasks and do not have a lable yet by filtering for ":all: & :to_others: & !@coworker1 & !@coworker2 & !@coworker3 ..." so that no task is left behind.
That is some micromanagement but I hope it helps :)

This thread is about a year old. Why can you not filter for a person? This is nuts. Siri Support, Filter people you assign things to. Simple reusable templates. Duplicate a task with all it's data . . . TD is about to be left in the dust by others who are more responsive. We need you at TD to list what you are working on and when it is coming out. That's what you do for loyal customers who pay you. We are not asking for miracles. These are DEFECTS if there are so many of us asking for these improvements. I've got 4 others on my account that I pay for. Going to start looking for other solutions. Have any of you found software that you feel is better than TD? Start listing alternatives and we can all go demo them and find out what is responsive to these basic needs.
Can you provide an estimate as to when filtering by team member will be available? I have spent many hours trying to work around this...I LOVE Todoist, but it is just costing me to much time! Can we expect to see it sometime within the next update or two, or is it still a year or more out? I came from Asana as I really do like the cleanliness of Todoist, and would LOVE to not have to go back... :(

Agree - we really need this
Rather than assigning a person using the formal method of assigning a project and then assigning a task (which I find not feasible since that will send an invite to that person whom doesn't want to use the app), I simply put "- name" (substituting the name of the person) at the end of the task. Then you create a filter based on that person's name.
Now, if you actually have a task with that person's name in it but it is not assign to them (for example, "Talk to Joe about budget - Sally"), well, then you'll need to be creative and maybe change it to "-name" (no space) and then creating a filter on "-name" (or use a + or something unique).
That is one way to work arround the problem. However I want my employees to be able to filter their own tasks. Adding names to the task title is more micromanagement either for them or for me.
(I do not see why I should asign a task to someone who is not using todoist in the first place. "send an invite to that person who doesn't want to use the app" I want people to get the invite to a project and see their tasks.)

I'm not getting my hopes up.
Considering todoist for company use but not having the ability renders todoist completely unuseable for my business.
There is no way I am assigning tasks to teams without the ability to
a) gauge their workload and
b) review with them their task list
Sure, I could try implementing that kludgey, error-prone, time-consuming labeling workaround or try taking backup files and see if I can somehow parse them in some other way (excel?) but then... what's the point of using todoist!?
Looking into alternatives to todoist now, I'll post my findings here for everyone else that finds they have this need that todoist won't even prioritize enough to give us an approximate ETA.
I understand (and you'd think todoist would also) that no one can run their business without knowing, at least ballpark, what tools they have to work with.

is there one single person at Todoist who can tell us: what are they working on right now? maybe if we learn what other feature you're working on, we'll understand it's more important....!
Until then, I feel that you're wasting the patience of your most valuable asset: your customers.
We are working on multiple things now including but not limited to new filtering system, new version of the PowerApp service, Workspaces, new Mac app, new tracking/reporting system. We will be able to share more information a bit closer to the release stages.
We are also planning some updates for shared projects and believe this filter may be also implemented in the near future :-)

However ... as a personal opinion I would like to add that I consider fixing the exisiting core features the more commendable strategy before adding more stuff. :/
Of course those new features sound intriguing but please do not forget to keep the engine going over all the new polish..

I've been using both Asana and Trello in several projects ran by my customers and they're already on these apps with their teams.
Trello being more visual and very much "draggy-droppy" fancy cool out of two.
Asana is beautiful to watch regarding UI and the overall snappy performance.
Be aware that Asana and Trello do need an internet connection in order to work at all, while Todoist still fakes well the browser and app cache "no internet needed" kind of whatever they want to call it. Still no real native app with a total offline support.
Todoist is "my own" task used manager without any collaboration so I can live without the filtering option at the level you guys might need it.
WOW - I have just gone through all of the comments left. I love this tool and I have been implementing this with my team to help us with collaborating on projects. Having the sort tool would be great to have touch base meetings with each individual to ensure they are keeping on task. Please, please, please release this soon! I want to suggest this as a company tool but this feature would be needed.
