Does the business plan offer centralized admin control like Basecamp?
Yes, we have an Admin panel where you can control users and other details. You can read more about it here. https://todoist.com/blog/2014/06/announcing-todoist-for-business-for-workplace-productivity/
I was really excited about ToDoist for Business until I read this:
"With Todoist for Business, you can create up to 80 active projects, have
200 active tasks per project and 50 collaborators per project."
These seem like very odd/arbitrary limits. Why are they there and how do
you just get an unlimited workplace? These types of limits don't appeal to
serious business use cases.
When compared to Basecamp's much less expensive unlimited plan they are
very confining and that is surprising since you are charging per user per
We are looking to replace Basecamp with a much more mobile friendly
solution but this seems to be a deal breaker. :-(
We are sorry you feel that way. Our main idea behind this is for organization, and for getting things done, as we are a To-Do app. So if we make it so you have to break down projects, and tasks, into more manageable pieces, that is a very good tactic for getting the work needed done. As the overall limit on how many tasks you can have is quite high.
There was more reason for this originally, which was related to performance, but that is not so much the case anymore.
So can we have an unlimited plan? We have a lot more active clients than
your limits would allow.
Unfortunately, unlimited plans are currently not available.
Please let us know how many users would you want to invite to each project?
Also, let us know where did you read this information because the maximum number of projects you can have on a Premium Business account is 200 and not 80.
I read it in the blog post link I was sent in this support string. There
shouldn't be arbitrary limits like this unless the apps can't handle more.
Limits add too much extra management overhead from an admin perspective (ie
making projects active and inactive and not exceeding a certain number).
Too bad. I hope ToDoist can offer a plan to compete with Basecamp at some
point in the near future. I absolutely love your focus on building an
excellent mobile native app set in addition to your web app - this is an
area where Basecamp lags badly. Please let us know if this changes.
Is it true that there is a limit of active projects and tasks as suggested above (80/200)? I read about these limits here:
As David said, its 200.
I think that's plenty, more than I can handle. ;-)
What's the difference between Premium and Business. Seems like it has all the same features.
https://todoist.com/business/pricing will show you the main differences.
Is there an easy way to migrate projects and tasks from Premium to Business? What does Todoist recommend?
There is no migration. It's the same account that you already have, but the details of what you can do with it are different. So, your data stays in tact.
I also have a hard time understanding the advantage of using business over premium. Going to business should move you to paying based on active projects. I don't want to have to pay every time a temp or intern gets added to a project. If I go to business I want to pay for the business. Not for every user.
The only big difference is the centralized billing in Business account. For big companies it's easier for the Admin to pay in one invoice for all employees that join the team. However, if you just share individual projects with interns (for example), not inviting them to your team, you won't have to pay for them.
Please see a bit more information here: https://todoist.com/Help/BusinessHelp
Can you set up teams and share a project with a team?
No, unfortunately not yet. We're looking into improving our team collaborations features though so you may see improvements in the future. :-)
