Tasks suddenly appear to be scheduled for dates in the past?

After installing the Chrome plugin a number of tasks are suddenly scheduled for dates in the past, some weeks ago. Also, some tasks that were finished reappeared.

What's happening to the Todoist service? It seems to be completely unreliable at the moment.

It won't be long before I'll start looking for an alternative.

Hi Joost,

Sorry to hear that you're having problems. Installing the extension should not cause either of those issues that you mentioned.

Just to confirm, this just showed up recently and not after the outage that we had? It is possible that time some tasks we're not synced properly and is only showing up now.

With that said, this is the first report of tasks of being suddenly scheduled on an older date and will monitor this to check if we see a pattern.

As you may have read in our blog, we're making some changes to make Todoist as reliable as possible. We truly apologize for the subsequent issues that may appeared. If you still experiencing this or other issues, please feel free to contact us.

Best Regards,

Yes, this showed up today (three hours ago), after the server problems of yesterday.

I hope it was a one-time bug.

Thanks for the quick reply by the way, I appreciate it.

This happened again. And again.
And again!

I just opened Todoist and it showed some 50 overdue tasks scheduled for the last two weeks that shouldn't be there.
These are all tasks which I had deleted the date from (i.e. they were not scheduled for a specific date anymore). But suddenly, inexplicably, they all show up again.

Really frustrating. Please fix it.

(And please add a function to batch remove dates from tasks. This should be a no-brainer and should've been implemented a long time ago.)

Hi Joost,

Sorry to hear you're running into this issue. In order to fix, we need to know where exactly the problem originates. Unfortunately, not everybody is getting this problem so there's just a specific scenario that this happens which might make it difficult to fine the cause of the problem.

Please try re-installing our mobile apps and try logging out and back again (both in the web, desktop, and mobile apps). Also, try to observe where you see the problem starts first? That might give us some clue as to what's triggering this.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Best Regards,

I deleted the dates on the Android app. There they still don't show up.
On the Todoist-website they suddenly reappeared, and it lists circa 50 overdue tasks.

Hello Joost,

In cases like this, where we can't clearly trigger this issue on our end yet, any details you can provide would be extremely helpful.

That said, if you could describe the exact process when it happens, that would be much appreciated.

For example - you delete these tasks everywhere, log out and back in and then they only appear on the web when you first log into the web, or they're not there on the web until you log in on Android at which point they show up, but not on the web... or is it in any way different.

Based on your last reply, you have deleted these tasks on Android and they reappeared on the web - does that mean that once you've deleted them on Android, there were actually gone from the web for a while and then reappeared? And once they did, did they also appear on Android once it synced?

Best regards,

Hi David, I'll try to give more information:

I never deleted these tasks. I only deleted the dates they were scheduled for.

The dates were gone on Android.
On the web they also were gone, yet suddenly reappeared as scheduled (overdue) tasks when I logged on from another computer.
On Android they still don't show up as scheduled.

Finally, I logged out and back in again on the web and now the problem seems to be solved: the unscheduled tasks are unscheduled again.

Seems like a strange caching bug.
