Linking Urls with embedded parenthesis

Minor issue, but in URLS, is there a way to escape parenthesis within a url? Causes some slight issues in tasks when trying to link them.

e.g. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb266220(v=office.12).aspx

Please tell me, what browser are you using? Copying this link in Firefox converts it to:

replacing () with %28 and %29

I can paste the example URL in chrome and it retains the parenthesis within the URL. What sort of slight issues are you running into? If we need specific steps to replicate the issue, please provide them so I can verify it.

I go to the URL http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb266220(v=office.12).aspx in Chrome

The rest of the steps are in the attachment if that helps

I can't reproduce this issue. I went to the site you've mentioned through Chrome, used our extension, clicked on "Quick Add:, then on "Add website as task", it added this content into the task name field:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb266220(v=office.12).aspx (Walkthrough: Word 2007 XML Format)

and when I add the task, I see a task called:

Walkthrough: Word 2007 XML Format

and it links correctly to the same URL.

Please try to go to Chrome's Advanced Settings -> Content Settings -> All cookies and site data, find and delete the Todoist-based entries there, reload the browser and see if the issue persists.

If this doesn't help, please specify what issues exactly does this URL cause? You've mentioned that it "causes slight issues", but we'd appreciate if you could let us know what the issues are.

I cleared out the cookies and that seems to have taken care of it. The issue was that it would take the text between the parens and use that as the displayed text for the link, effectively breaking the link.

thanks for your help and patience on a niggling little issue

I'm able to replicate this issue consistently on the notes section of a task. The Url breaks at the closing parenthesis.

Todoist supports its own URL formatting which allows you to include a custom anchor text. So if you enter this in your task:

https://todoist.com (Todoist)

The task will show just the work "Todoist" and it will be linked to the URL before it.

That said, if the URL contains parenthesis, whatever is inside it will be considered an anchor.

To avoid this, please replace the parenthesis in the URl with %28 and %29:

I've tested it now and it works correctly.

Alternatively, provide a custom anchor by adding text in parenthesis after the URL like this:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb266220(v=office.12).aspx (Walkthrough: Word 2007 XML Format)

Also tested now and works in both Chrome and Firefox.
