unable to add tasks

I cannot add tasks to a specific project.

This project has 116 active tasks, when I try to add a task I receive the message that the limit is 200.

This happens both in Mac desktop app and web (via Chrome).

I tried to add tasks from my Android phone to this prj and it works fine.

Pls could you help me?

Thx in advance

HI, it's me again.

Did some test more, I suspect that on Mac, both desktop and web apps, the sub-tasks flagged as done are still counting as active.

I tried to delete one of those completed sub-task and I'd been able to add one task more in my project.

I think its' a Mac based glitch because from my Android phone I can can add tasks as aspected.

Hello José,

That's the expected behavior on any non-mobile app we have. Sub-tasks stay on the list until you complete their parent task. If you don't want them there, please either hold SHIFT while checking off a sub-task or right-click on it and choose "Move to history".

Hello David,
thx for the answer.

Moving those sub-tasks to history means also to break the link with their parent?
In the sense that they become a first level task in the project coming out from original parent... or not.

What sound strange is that their, also if completed, are counted as active... on mac

Hi José,

>> Moving those sub-tasks to history means also to break the link with their parent?

Yes. When restored out from history, they'll be there own first level task.

Sub-tasks, even when completed, are considered pretty much active as long as they're attached to the main parent task. You can easily undo them without going through the completed list of tasks and that's because they have not been moved to history yet.

Hi Clyde,
this really means that the limit it's not 200 active tasks per project, but less.

What I don't understand are two things:

1. why in the project are counted 116 active tasks, but the system when I insert a new task retrieve more than 200 active tasks

2. why from Android I can continue to add tasks w/o problems...

IMO Android is detecting the "real" active tasks and desktop app not

IMO 200 tasks per project are a reasonable limit,
at least for my workflow,
but they MUST be 200 and not less than this
and furthermore they cannot be an indefinable number :-(

The definition of an active task in Todoist is - a task that is visible on the list in a project without having to click on "View completed tasks". If a sub-task is moved to history, it is then considered as not active. If it's not, you can still un-check it again and it's sill part of an active task structure.

If you can add more tasks on Android, that's a bug and we'll look into it.

If you're using so many tasks in a project, please try to use sub-projects instead in some cases so that instead of, let's say, 2 parent tasks, each with 100 sub-tasks, you can have 2 sub-projects, each with 100 regular tasks - not only wold they be removed from the list right-away, but give you more room for other tasks.

Best regards,
