sync issues

been having sync issues in the past few days (whether using beta or not).

Changes added on the web are not replicated in android, even after manually hitting "refresh". The issue happens intermittently, but is extremely annoying.

Logging out and back in seems to solve the problem (is that is any help to you in figuring this out).

By the way, reliability must be the number one feature for an app that claims to be GTD-compatible. If TD is the bucket I put everything into, I can't afford not to have my tasks, even for a few hours.

Hello Thomas,

We're sorry for the inconvenience. If you can observe any pattern in which this issue occurs, please let us know - if you know the steps to take to reliably trigger this bug every time, that would help us a lot and speed up the fixing process.

I've been having the same issue with my Android phone (Galaxy Nexus/Android 4.2.2) for several weeks now. After making updates from any laptop OS/Browser combo, the changes do not all sync to the phone. If I log out of Todoist on the phone, and then log back in, the recent changes appear.

I haven't discerned any patterns that correlate with the issue.

During the course of the day, I typically make changes using one of three laptops, Win7/Opera, OSX/Safari, Centos 6.5/Chromium. When I'm away from home or office, I use my phone.

There have been a few updates to the Android app recently, are you updated to the latest version possible? Many things relating to syncing has been changed.

Same issue here. Doesn't matter which device. Sync issues between Windows app en Outlook plugin, but also between Android tablet app and Windows app en Todoist website. Both missing tasks and completed tasks that show up not completed on other devices. Problems started with the new version combined with upgrade to premium last week.

I'm having the same issue. The browser plugin and android are in sync, but the Outlook app is not. There are usually 1-2 tasks that I've updated (usually in the browser) that do not show as updated in the Outlook app. Therefore they come up as a "Yesterday" task in Outlook although the due date was updated in the browser version. Any idea what's happening?

Even if you hit the refresh/sync button it does not update? Have you signed out of Outlook recently at all?

I don’t see a refresh/sync button in outlook. I’m using Outlook 2013 for Windows. I’ve tried hitting all the todoist buttons but nothing seems to refresh. I did log out of todoist in outlook last week when this happened before. So it’s happened again. Don’t want to have to keep signing out of the outlook app. Have shut down outlook itself and restarted but that hasn’t helped.

Hi Erik,

On the lower right corner, do you see a circular counter-clockwise arrow? That is the icon for force syncing the plug-in. The next time you have sync issues, can you please try clicking that and see if it updates it properly.

Ah, there it is. My screen resolution is so high (ie small font size), I did not see it. I clicked it and now I have 1 item allegedly overdue from yesterday and 2 from the day before, but my account on todoist.com does not show any overdue tasks (which is correct).

OK I’ve fixed it. This is what I did.

Sync’ed then logged out of todoist.com in the browser.

Sync’ed then logged out of the Todoist app in Outlook 2013.

Closed outlook completely (including running background process).

Logged into todoist.co in browser.

Started Outlook, logged in fresh to the Todoist app.

They are now in sync. Not sure how/why the mess before happened but it’s working now. Hopefully this process will help someone else.

Hello Ashish,

We're sorry for the inconvenience, we will soon release an update to our iOS app addressing sync issues (we've made a lot of changes to the sync process there).

For now, please make sure that you're allowing Todoist to use iOS' "App Background Refresh" options.

Yep, having the same problem it seems. I got to this page with a search, sorry don't use Android, don't have time to find other threads that may be the same issue, but the characteristics look the same, i.e. changes on the web aren't replicated elsewhere (here, iPhone and another browser)

A real potential disaster in the making and if this isn't resolved I'll have to look elsewhere. All my updates on my work computer (website with Chrome) were not appearing either on another computer through the website, or my iPhone. The new tasks and projects were not in the automatic backup. The little "progress" icon was animating at the top of my work computer on the website (with all the new tasks etc). Apprehensively, I logged out of the work computer wondering if all those new tasks would be gone. Logged back in and they are there, my iPhone updates now, and haven't yet tested on my second computer in the browser.

Getting the sync right is such an essential thing, and I'm pretty apprehensive about using Todoist now. It's a critical bug I'd say, sort of a sink the ship thing.

That worked. Clearing data in android worked. But you might need to take a
look at it and prevent it from happening again.

As far as i know,

I had a task which was synced up in both android and PC.
Later i edited the task and tried to add some notes/ attachements via the
android app.
When I tried doing it, it failed couple of times.
i gave up and changed the task, title and hit save.
This worked in my android.
Now when i tried to access the task in PC todoist app, the changes was not

Thanks for your timely help.

I moved from using wunderlist and been using trial premium. I really like
the service. This is my first issue and got it figured out in few hours.
Would definitely buy the premium version.

I am seeing exact same issues here. I have been a premium user for a couple of days now. First day everything worked great, now I am having major sync issues across a wide range of devices.

Plenty of tests:

Add task in OSX app (10.10 yosemite TD 5.0.2)
Force sync on android tablet (Android 4.4.4 TD 5.2.5)

No new task on android.

Add task in same android app, no task on OS X app.

Sign in and refresh online app - no tasks visible from either the OS X app addition or the Android app.

If I sign out completely in any of the apps/website I then see the tasks.

I am also seeing no notifications from shared projects or additions to shared projects unless I specifically log out and log in.

Even worse, push notifications are being received by an iOS8 device, but then the actual notification is non existent. Again, log out and log in the notification appears. However nothing will actually sync again unless I log out and log in.

Push notifications from iOS8 to Android are not working at all, and I have to log out/log in to see anything at all.

All changes are being emailed instantly, however clicking accept on an invitation for example will not propagate to any devices until they have been logged out and back in again.

I have left all apps with various additions for over an hour now and none of them are in sync unless I log out and in. Force sync makes no different in any of the cases, webapp, OS X app, iOS app or android.

I have tested this with 3 android devices, 2 mac's, 1 iPad and the web interface. Sync is not working between any of them unless forced by logging out/in.

I am a premium user and if this is not sorted out pretty quickly I will want a refund. This app has the potential to be one of the best task managers I have used, and I have used a lot - yet these sync issues are absolutely diabolical! Totally unusable in its current state.

I have emailed Peter Thompson with my findings also as he emailed me directly after setting up premium.

Please reply urgently

Clearing data in the Android app mentioned above for Deepak likely only worked because it forced a logout from the app, causing tasks to sync. I'd be surprised if sync continued normally afterwards.

Dear Brendon, Clyde, and David:

I am experiencing the same problems. From each of my platforms (see below) I have tried adding and completing tasks within both shared and non-shared projects. Each platform shows that a sync happened. I also manually pressed the sync button on each platform. However, the changes in each case do not appear on the other platforms even after pressing the sync buttons on those platforms. This includes trying to sync between TD on Chrome and Safari, so even the different web versions are not syncing correctly. Hence, all platforms are FAILING TO DOWNLOAD SYNC the changes.

HOWEVER, when I log out of just one platform and re-login to it, I can then see the changes made on the other platforms. Hence, all platforms are SUCCESSFULLY UPLOAD SYNCING the changes automatically without logging in/out, just not downloading the changes with "syncing".

EXAMPLE: If I add a task on my iPhone, it says it synced "now". When I look at Chrome & press "sync", I don't see the new task. But if I log out of Chrome and log back in, I then see the new task made on the iPhone. The same situation exists in reverse with adding to Chrome and trying to find on iPhone, or on Safari, or on iPad, or on Mac. Likewise, the same exact issue occurs in the same way with all the platforms described below.

Here are my platforms:
-iPhone 4, ios 7.1.2, TD v 8.5
-iPad 2, ios 7.1.2, TD v 8.5
-MacBook Pro 2009, OSX 10.9.4, TD v 4.1
-Chrome 37.0.2062.120
-Safari 7.0.6

What I have tried:
-Manually syncing each platform (including between different web versions of TD) - fail
-Logging out and re-logging into each platform - success (only method that works)
-Cleared cache on Mac - fail
-Reinstalled TD app on Mac - fail
-Reinstalled TD app on iPhone -fail
-Reinstalled TD app on iPad - fail
-Logged into each TD platform with Google account (making sure all were logged in under Google at the same time) - fail
-Logged into each TD platform directly (making sure all were logged in directly at the same time) - fail
-Checked "App Background Refresh" is on in iPad & iPhone - fail

In summary, each platform is apparently syncing the changes to your server, but each platform is failing to download the changes made on the other platforms, even though each platform shows the "sync" is complete. The only method that forces each platform to download the changes made on other platforms is to log out and log back in.

This is a MAJOR BUG that is new compared to when I first signed up as a premium user back in February, 2013. Back then, when I made changes on one platform, they almost instantaneously showed up on the other platforms which was the main selling point for me. I don't know when this bug first appeared as I temporarily paused in my use of TD several months ago. However, I would really like to use TD going forward if you can fix this bug.

I signed up for premium so I could share tasks/projects with my wife. However, if we're creating a joint shopping list, etc, and the changes are not updating on our respective devices without logging out and logging back in, that defeats the purpose!

Thank you for your prompt attention to these issues and please let me know if I can help you figure out the problems with additional information.

The problem mostly occurs on a shared project between myself and another party (but I have also experienced it between my mac and my phone (android). Tried deleting the mac app entirely (as well as clear cookies and application cache). Android app is the latest version.

Not sure what was fixed 10hrs ago, but for us the problem persists.

Now I tried creating a new project in the browser called "test". I then shared it with my partner. I created a task, then it showed up for her too. She created one, and it showed up in my project. We then did this a few times, completing the tasks as we went along, and things seemed fine.

Then suddenly it stopped working again. In this case I created three tasks (they all showed up for her as well), she completed all three, but only two of them went away from my project.

Fast forward several minutes (and refreshing the browser many, many times) the tasks finally disappeared on my end as well.

Then I checked the Mac app, and no matter how many times I try refreshing that (keep in mind that I have already tried the cookies/cache thing and that it is the latest version) some of the very first tasks we created in the test project are still there.

The Android app seems to sync fine with the test project and is up to date with web, so again, this seems to be a mac (or perhaps desktop app) problem.

Tasks added to shared projects may or may not appear in the other parties project list. Maybe after some time or not at all.

It may be necessary to log out and back into your account or refresh the page/app (reinstall mobile apps) for the changes to take effect and we can no longer reproduce any sync issue right now.

If after refreshing the app or logging out and back in, the issue still persist and you can reliably reproduce it under certain circumstances, please let us know how can we trigger it.

Just experienced another sync problem.

On my macbook air using Chrome I completed an item that was in the inbox.
Two seconds later, the item reappeared, so I checked it off again. It then seemed to be finally marked as complete.

Then, 30 minutes later, on my mac pro using the mac app, I saw that the item I had checked off in chrome on the macbook air was still present. So I proceeded to check it off in the mac app. For now it seems to be gone, but I wouldn't be surprised if it suddenly shows up again.
