Push sync

T

Currently, the android app does not seem to sync in the background.

consider the following usage case:

I'm adding tasks to the web version of todoist. I do not open the todoist app on android. Later, I go to a place without internet access. I open the app, I still see my old tasks.

Despite having added the tasks at a time when both my devices had internet access, the changes have not been pushed.

Could you please implement background push sync on android?

---

I have another question: when Todoist syncs, does it sync a single file with all my tasks, or merely the incremental changes?

Hello Thomas,

Thank you for your report. We're currently testing a beta version of our app 4.0 which will be released very soon. We'd appreciate if you would like to participate in it and confirm if the issue persists.

To do so, please join the beta community on Google+ and follow the instructions in the community description: https://plus.google.com/communities/108057919781399570441

As for your question - the app syncs only recent changes. Only if you clear its cache, it will sync all data from the server.

Best regards,
David

Thomas,

Thank you for this information, I will pas it to the developers, but please also tell me:
- What version of Android are you using?
- Do you have any custom ROMs?
- Are you using any task killer apps or battery saving apps?
- Are you logged into Todoist (haven't logged out last time you've used it)?

Best regards,
David

Custom rom: cyanogenmod 10.2.0
No task killer or battery saving apps.
I logged in again before performing the test.

Thomas,

Are you going offline within 20 minutes or less? The background sync happens only once every 20 minutes if the app is not opened so if you make changes on the web, the sync is scheduled in 15 minutes and you go offline in 10 minutes - it won't sync.

Best regards,
David

Hi David,

I haven't tested rhat, but what I would like is true push sync. ie tasks are synced as soon as they are added.

Best,

Thomas

Thomas,

That's exactly how it works - the moment you add a task, the server pushes an update to all platforms instantly (technically, within 1-3 seconds), but this works only if you're logged into the app and the app is opened or runs in the background.

On top of that, we have background syncing and that happens once every 20 minutes if you are logged in, but the app is completely closed.

Best regards,
David

Hi David,

Ok, that seems fair enough.

Hey! Just wanted to ask if automatic sync of todoist in the mobile app was released in the stable version on Google Play yet? (The way gmail automatically pulls your mail even when you're not using it)? Just asking because I found myself a few times offline wanting to crank my list, but it was still on the state of the last time I ran the app (sometimes a week ago, since I mostly use todoist on a computer).
Seems that it is related to Thomas' feedback for the beta version.
Thanks, and btw todoist is a really great product.
