Worthless on Windows tablets

Do you guys realize how terribly small your font and icons are on a Tablet with Windows 8? I'm using your standalone program and Outlook extension on Surface Pro and the font is microscopic.

Unfortunately, this is being noticed after the 30 day refund since I just got the tablet. I really like the web and Android version but your Windows products are terrible on smaller 10 inch screen size.

Is there any way to fix this or do you plan on coming out with an update in the near future?

Is there a way to sync todoist tasks directly to Outlook 2013 and bypass your extension?

For $ 30 a year premium service, I would expect your interface to look good on all platforms and not to be left out on Windows.

Basically, do you have plans to make a Windows Metro App and provide a scalable interface across all Windows extensions and programs?

Please tell me - what's the resolution of your screen? I've checked our web-app on a 10 inch tablet with a resolution of 1920x1200 and it looks very clear even with a system font set to small.

We are currently working on an update that will make Todoist scale up on high-PPI screens.

Thanks for your reply. Yes the web app is fine. In my post, I was referring to your desktop and outlook 2013 extension. My resolution is 1920 x 1080. So again your web app is fine but there is clearly a scaling problem with your stand alone apps.

The stand-alone app should display everything exactly as on the web. In fact, it only is a browser window connecting to todoist.com

Please send a screenshot to david@doist.io showing how you see the app (incl. the URL to this thread for reference).

Yes, I would have to agree... VERY DIFFICULT to read in Outlook 2013 using a Surface Pro 2. Can this get fixed soon?

Hello Travas,

Please send a screenshot showing this issue to david@doist.io - all our apps and add-ons use and connect to the same website and there should be no display differences between the web and the add-ons.

Thank you, it does seem indeed like it's caused by the lack of the high-PPI support, but we'll add it in near future (can't give you an exact ETA, though).

As for the opening issue, Todoist sits in the system tray (beside the clock) and can be closed or re-opened from there.

You might want to fix this in an update (along with the microscopic font). When one clicks on either the system tray or task bar shortcut, the program should open right up. Instead, to re open the program I have to take the following steps:

1. click on system tray to maximize hidden icons
2. right click on todoist to open up menu
3. then click "show/hide"

use short cut key combination.

It would be nice to also have the option to open it up like every other normal program.

For anyone else reading this post, I have found that todoist is best viewed in Firefox and Thunderbird. Both render the app the best for some reason. Chrome has issues where the to do entry pop up field displays clear to the left of the screen and is only half visible. Internet explorer does not display properly as well. Firefox has always been great with displaying pages and probably handles HTML 5 better.

Sorry for the long post. Thank you for your excellent support and can't wait to see the future fixes. :)

Hello Ricky,

You can configure this behavior anytime. Please right-click on the TD icon in the tray, go to "Configurations" and set it to quit on close )instead of hiding to the tray). This, however, will disable the keyboard shortcuts.

Also, aside from the shortcuts, you can double-click on the tray icon to show the app. You also can choose which icons show in the tray and which are hidden icons and have the TD icon be shown outside of the "more" arrow at all times.

We will look into forcing the app to show when attempting to launch it again.

All the above was in April - 3 months on and I dont think the small font in the Windows app is fixed yet. Any progress in this?

Hello Bruce,

We're sorry for the delays, although we don't have any estimated release date, we will prepare our apps for high PPI displays. That is - not only adjust the font, but also prepare all graphical elements in an accordingly higher resolution.

I can report that the desktop and outlook add-in are extremely small on the surface pro 3 (default display size is 2160*1440). It is impossible to use desktop app with such a tiny font

Can't wait for the update. It will obviously give todoist a huge advantage over others.

It's pretty annoying that allot of companies are so late and lacking on support for hi resolution displays.

These displays and Windows 8 have been out for quite a while.

I hope you guy's have a release date here pretty soon for a better full featured Windows 8 app version soon that displays better with hi dpi screens. Wunderlist just came out with their Windows 8 app and its pretty good. I'm still sticking with your service because there are reliability issues with Wunderlist's repeating task system.

If it's just a browser within a desktop app why cant you simply resize the font? Or give us the option to?

I just wanted record that it is now 7 months since this thread said the Wndows app was no good on tablets.

But its not just tablets and there are many threads about the Todoist Windows App being uselss on laptops with hi-resolition screens generaly.

This is core stuff and needs fixing as a serious bug.

I just installed this on my surface pro 3 and it needs scaling badly. Otherwise, it looks like a great app. To bad its getting uninstalled. This issue was brought up in April and nothing been done about it. Shame, I'm hunting for a decent to do manager. Wunderlist windows app is worthless as well.

I would like to see a Nice Windows program in the future but the web app is important since my work will not allow program installs.

For now, why can't they just make improvements to the Chrome Web App? Like a shortcut key that instantly opens a new task, even when Todoist is not open.

If use use Chrome or Opera, you'll get desktop notifications which is cool. And the Chrome app still supports offline mode.

Maybe they can make a standalone mini browser window that contains the Todoist web app w/ a responsive design.

For the Chrome web app, just hit CTRL + ( + OR - ) to zoom in and out. To make accessing easier and more like the feel of a program, following these steps:

1. Install the Chrome launcher shortcut on your taskbar
2. Add todoist from the Chrome web store
3. right click on todoist and select "open as window"
4. Allow desktop notifications, if asked.

This way, you can open Todoist without opening the Chrome browser.

Obvious tips, but I thought I'd throw them out there. :)

I have a mac, iphone 6plus and Surface Pro 3. The Surface Pro 3 standalone TD is tiny tiny type and useless. The web version is OK. TD staff you need to know that we give you our lives. we count on you. we trust you. All our data for our productivity is in your hands. We get a Suface Pro 3 and we can't use the program any more and you can't fix it for months? We send an issue that data that was checked off doesn't come up in a search of completed items and you say that you're working on it - for months? Each of the three platforms uses a different way to edit and create items. You say you try to make it look and feel native to the device? That's not a realistic approach for synched info designed to be multi platform. Make it one way. We are habitual creatures. If you make labels a big box on iphone and we can check 5 items in a moment, then we go to Mac and we have to add each one and the window closes and we have to manually open again - you disrupt our workflow and our subconscious actions. We can never be efficient or fast. Stick to a system or give us choices to emulate the native of say iphone on the Mac or the mac style on the iphone. That's my two sense gang. Hope it helps make the product more stable and adoptable by the mostly cross platform users who need you the same way everywhere!

Are there any updates on this? Its getting close to a whole year since I posted this and there has been no update to the Windows app.

In addition to the scaling problem, the Windows app has no desktop notifications. If those two features would be updated then the app would be in good shape.

This will be my final update in the threads for new releases in the future we will just update the project page. The new version (https://github.com/mitchcapper/wpfdoist/releases/tag/1.0b2) features the options UI and should be a decent base for people to fix the scaling issues.

I received the following update from someone at Todoist today:
Unfortunately, we don't have any updates reg. the issue discussed there, but we're hiring a new .NET developer now who will hopefully soon address this issue in a new update of our Windows app.

For now, as a workaround, please try to use the full web-app on high PPI devices as the browser will scale it correctly. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Same, completely unusable on a QHD screen (Dell XPS 13) - both as standalone app and outlook plugin. This is not acceptable, the plugin is invaluable in my workflow - you're about to lose a customer if you can't fix it.

Would you like to try our beta version of the upcoming update for the Outlook plugin? It should include the option to adjust the font (the arrow icon next to the Todoist side bar):

I installed it. The arrow she's talking about is next to the Todoist *icon* in the Ribbon Bar. It's the "extended properties" arrow.

It works - thank you for adding this. I realize you probably have to limit the zoom options to ensure scaling, but I think 250% would be a good option. I'm going between 200% and 300% and not sure either is right.
