Task Order

DP

Tasks automatically resort themselves by priority a few seconds after being manually ordered. This seems to happen inconsistently among the various platforms. In addition to the Outlook add-on, I also use the web app and the iPhone app. Is there a way to simply turn off the auto-sort by priority function (or fix the manual override for task ordering)? I would rather just manually order my tasks each day than have them resort themselves automatically.

Hello Dan,

Within a project, you can sort tasks as you want and they will never sort themselves automatically.

On search result views, such as the today or 7 days view, you can't turn it off. You can reorder tasks manually on this view, but only if you keep tasks of the same priority within the same priority group and these tasks don't have due times (such as today at 2pm).

Only if you try to move a task with p1 below a task with p3, for example, it will not work. However, you can right-click on such task, change its priority to 3 and then you can place it within the p3 group wherever you like.

Best regards,
David

Thanks, David. I guess what I'm trying to do isn't possible. A feature that just allowed you to disable the auto-sort would be great in the future. Or perhaps a feature to change the colors assigned to each priority level?

Dan,

We'll consider adding such options in the future and you're welcome to request them in our Votebox: https://todoist.com/Vote/ :-)

I'm seeing this issue with tasks with the same priority when using a custom filter.

For example, when I view the tasks in my custom filter (which is set to show tasks with particular lables for for "today"), and I move around the tasks within a particular priority, they seem to reorder themselves automatically whenever:

a) a task is completed; or
b) a new task in with the same priority and label(s) is added

How can I turn this automatic sort off? It's very annoying!

Thanks,
Parin

Hi Parin,

Unfortunately, there's no way to turn off automatic sorting in filtered views. We may add an option for it in the future.

Clyde

Hi Clyde,

What does the automatic sort, sort by?

And yes, please do add support for this!

I love Todoist, but the lack of bulk editing, and not being able to turn off this automated sort is starting to make it's way up the annoyance list.

Thanks,
Parin

Parin,

Its the same as date based views, sorted by date then priority.

My tasks don't sort by any logic I can see. Is there a default setting?

Hello Tom,

Assuming that you're referring to the today or 7 days view, tasks are sorted there by date first, then by time and then priority.

If that's not the view you're referring to, please let us know which one it is.

David
