Login Timeout Issue

Ill be running the app and when I switch over to it to use it, I need to login again (timeout occurs) and I can't even select remember email info settings.

Essentially each time i need to use it, i need to put in my email and password - not very time productive.

Hi Mat,

Please check your Safari settings, under Privary, are you blocking Cookies & Website Data? And to be clear, you are using the Mac desktop app correct?

Hi Brendon,

no blocks on Safari settings. I use gmail as my login method, could this be an issue?

Mac desktop app is correct.

Hello Mat,

Gmail login should not be a problem. We can't reproduce this issue, Todoist keeps us logged in forever unless we manually log out.

Please tell us - do you experience the same problem if you log into the web-app directly on Safari or Chrome or Firefox?

Best regards,

Hi David,

I checked on web app Safari, Chrome and Firefox and all is ok.

The error has only occurred since i updated to newer version.

Great product but is impossible to use outside of browser at the moment.

Try uninstalling the Mac app, use a program like AppCleaner to make sure everything is removed, clear the cache for Safari, and re-install.

i zapped the app, cleared the cache and still get the same issue. It was fine for a little bit but it seems to have a timeout bug if not used for a period of time. Really strange.

This is truly odd, as you are the only report of this issue. Normally anything that has to do with logging out, is related to cookies and saved data.

We will continue to try to look into this, but without being able to reproduce it, it becomes quite hard.

Yeah same. Very frustrating all round it seems. Was such a breeze until updating. Ive tried a restart and no luck also. Should I try login without using gmail?

Yes, please try to use the manual login (after setting a password for your account in the Settings.

Hi guys,

created a non gmail login but without premium account, I can't transfer my current todo lists without doing it manually which isn't feasible.

Still get "it seems like our session has expired. Please re-login"... Any other ideas? Really want to keep using the software as its the only one after years trying others that I stuck with.

We can't reproduce this issue. If we could somehow make the app do this at least once, then we could look into it, but this is the only report of such issue and it never happened to us, though we use Todoist extensively for years without logging out.

Do you use any other apps that use cookies to stay logged in and did it ever happen to you in any other online app? We really don't use anything "special" for keeping the session active. We use Comet to force-reload the page periodically, though, but it doesn't affect cookies or the session itself.

Are you using a VPN server or a shared proxy server so that multiple accounts may be logged in through the same IP at the same time?

Best regards,

Mat Hede

Hi David,

no dice, don't have other apps with cookies or VPN / shared proxy.

Everything has been running the same since previous version and then with the update, the issue has arisen so its something that has changed with upgrading.

Are there any files i should manually delete that might be conflicting with the previous and current version? Just in case the app zapper didn't get everything?

App Zapper would grab everything needed to clear it out. Assuming you uninstalled our app, ran that app, cleared the cache for Safari (the app uses this), rebooted the system, grabbed the install file from the main website (not used any pre-downloaded) and installed it.

We really can't reproduce this, I have been running the MacApp (new one of course) non-stop without it logging out.

Safari should be the only thing that could cause the app to do this, but you have already gone through it's settings and made sure it's accepting all cookies and other data, so it should be fine.

You don't have any extensions installed for Safari?

I have been having that issue also for a while.
Have been doing as you advised. Cleaned out the Todoist app.
I have Safari running with now cookie management tool.

I will report back if nothing has changed... maybe we can find out what's causing the problem.

Getting logged out after not being active for an hour or so but I haven't uninstalled or went through the Brandon's tip. I'm only using the Mac OS X Todoist, not the web version.
My issue could also be that I'm logging in and put from a VPN sevice when doing my bank errands or buying stuff on internet, sometimes losing my WIFI or the speed changes and maybe this confuses Todoist a little.
In my case, if I work with TD let's say every 10-15 minutes, or at least bringing it forward to see the current tasks I'm working on, it doesn't logg me out, only if I leave it idle.
I do have to admit it's not fun to re-login, I'm also using the Gmail account for this, and I have a double login - first with the password and then a code sent to my SMS.
I got burned recently on the net when my credit card was hijacked during a purchase so I've both changed all my passwords and chosen the double login options as well as that I'm using VPN quite a lot.
Still love the TD.

Hello Dragan.

Have you tried 1password? Have been unsing it since version 3. It is quiet amazing! :)
Anyways... I have been having the "need to login again" issue again.
I am using Safari with the following extensions installed:

-1 Password
- Adblock Plus
- Clea.nr Youtube
- DoNotTrackMe
- Evernote Webclipper

Other than that I do not use any cookie managing extensions (yet)

If you disable DoNotTrackMe does it start working again. Unless I am mistaken, that does play around with cookies and other items such as this, and could cause an issue with Todoist.

Hi Brandon.

Did as you said. Disabled DoNotTrackMe and as I did my weekly planning this morning I noticed something interesting.
After disabling DoNotTrackMe I used Todoist on Mac aprox 15 min after disabling and when I wanted to move a task to next week todoist logged me out.

I never had this happening to me before... Meaning, usually when it happened only when I rebooted...
I will keep reporting.
Let's see if it now keeps me logged in :)

restarting mac, todoist prompting me for login info.
Do not track me is defenitely disabled!

So to be clear, is Safari (default, no extensions) accepting all cookies? I am still not able to reproduce this issue.

The report may come of use but I don't believe so, as we know the OS already. So you say from Third Party. What exactly do you mean?

Have you tried using a different browser to see if its Safari or not?

I have opera and firefox installed, but I only use safari so far. They should not delete any cookies if not executed, should they?

It says there in my settings (in German) something like: Suppress cookies and website data from: Third Parties and Ad-providers.

Uh oh, I think I read that the wrong way... :/
I will change it to "never".
And will report back asap.

Stupid me :/
Now I feel like a computer noob... :( *ashamed*

Florian, thanks for the tip on iPassword, I do have it on my MacBook Pro.
I, however, use the native Todoist app on Mac and I'll still have to write down manually my email address (I login with my Google account), then I can right click and use the 1Password to fill in the password.
The thing is I have a double authorisation of passwords so an sms is sent to my mobile and I need to fill in that manually as well.
So the whole process is a bit cumbersome which I'm also a part of (double passwords...)haha.
Love the TD anyway..
