Adding task from within Outlook doesn't put email body into Todoist Note?

I'm a premium member and just installed the Todoist plugin for Outlook and was surprised that when I right-clicked an email and selected "Add Todoist", it created a Todoist task with the subject of the email (that seems right to me) but didn't include the email message body as a Note on the Todoist task (that seems wrong to me).

Am I doing something wrong?

That is the correct behaviour. If you'd like to do it the other way, that would be emailing to a project, you can also. https://todoist.com/blog/2013/01/zero-inbox-policy-with-todoist/

It would be great if the body of the email would also be included in the notes area. Actually the functionality is kind of useless if this is missing... :-P

Hello Jan,

It does, if you use the option to send tasks via email. So it's either you have the body of the message as a note, but the task doesn't link to the message in Outlook or you have a link to the message in Outlook, but no body in a task note.

Hi David,

thanks for your reply. I noticed it workt that way. It just seems backwards to me :-)

I would also expect the outlook plugin to append any attachments to the task. This makes dealing with the task away from the computer much easier...(then you have the fulle email and relavant attachments)

Yes I echo the comments above. As much as I love the integration with Outlook it would be much more useful to have the body of the email as a note within the task.

One more echo on board here. While it is nice to pull the email when in Outlook, the functionality is lost when accessing the task from other devices (iPad, Phone, etc.). Furthermore it makes shared tasks in the business version useless to the other user since they cannot see the body of the email. I realize that you can email to the project and get that functionality but why not provide both options while in Outlook...otherwise another step in the process. Will look forward to that improvement.

I agree with everyone on this thread. The linking to email is a critical feature for me. I now no longer have to have flagged messages in Outlook as well as tasks in a task manager. I used to use Wunderlist and switched for this feature.

The big drawback for me is that at home I work on a Mac and at work I also have an iPad as well as Outlook on my company machine. Having a task that is just the name of an email does not help me remember what it was when I'm not in Outlook. I'd much prefer it to BOTH link and attach the message body as a note. That would be killer and would really simplify my life!

Outlook 2013

I just joined as a Business user yesterday and installed both the Outlook add-in and the desktop app. Both installed fine. The Todoist app shows up on the Outlook ribbon and creates a task just fine. In the desktop app, the body of the email does not appear in the notes, however, double-clicking on the new task does open the original email in Outlook. While this is an ok work-around for me personally it does not help my staff see emails that I have assigned to them.

In the Todoist web app, only the subject line of the email is included. No email body and no link to the original email; same as others discussed above. I tried saving the email to the desktop and attaching it in the task notes as a file, but when I double click the attached file, I just get a dialog box to save the file; it does not open in either a web page or Outlook.

I am not a coder, but there seems to be two issues that need fixing: (a) the Todoist Outlook plug-in needs to copy the email body into the task comment so it can be seen from Todoist on any platform, AND (b) the web app needs to include a functional link to open the original email so that attachments can be accessed.

I would appreciate it if you could provide an ETA for either one of those fixes being available. Thank you very much!
