updating to Todoist Next


I'm trying to upgrade to Todoist Next (i'm very excited about the collaboration feature). I've got Todoist open on my Mac. From the Todoist menu, I choose "Check for updates." It asks if I want to download the update, I say yes. I get a window that invites me to "Install and relaunch." I click on it, and get an error message:

Update Error!

An error occurred while installing the update. Please try again later.

I've tried all day. What's up?

Also, something weird seems to be happening with my syncing. I have loads of to dos in my MacOS copy, but my iPhone and Web accounts show not a single to do...

Again, what's up?

Hi Kirn,

Please try downloading the file from the main website http://todoist.com/mac and installing it from that download. Does it still occur?

Are you sure you are signed into the same account everywhere? Please sign out and back in again on all, to make sure they are done the same way (if one is Google, the rest need to be Google)

Thanks for replying.

I did as you suggested, and downloaded a new copy of Todoist, and signed in. Two things seemed amiss: 1. I had no to dos visible (not the case in my current account) and 2. I didn't see the new share feature (it looked exactly like my current version).

My current version is 2.5 (115). The newly downloaded version was 3.1 (122), so clearly there's a difference, but the problem isn't solved.

I also tried upgrading my current version from within the program (going to the Todoist pull down, selecting check for updates, etc. The same thing happened this morning that I described in my posting last night.

My phone version also still shows no tasks - that version is 6.0.4 (11031).

Any ideas?

One further note - I added a test task on the version I downloaded today - the 3.1 version. My test task showed up on my phone.

Do I need to manually move my hundreds of tasks into the new version of Todoist?

I don't relish that option...

Hello Sarah,

The only reason why you may not see your tasks is if you have logged into a different Todoist account. Todoist Next is not a new app and does not require any updates. All you need to do is to log out and back into your already existing account and every app and platform will "update" your account to Next (or rather - you will see the already updated state as all Todoist accounts are Next).

However, the only issue will be the iOS app. We no longer support version 6 so you won't be able to use any new features on it and also we won't fix any issues of the older version of our iOS app. The latest release is 8.0.2 and it requires iOS 7 to work.

That said, please make sure again that you're using the correct account. You've registered at Todoist using only the initial of your first name and searching for your last name revealed multiple results, but I think that one of these accounts, linked to an email address ending with gmri.org may be yours.

It had occurred to me to wonder if that was the problem! I had no record of todoist at my gmri.org email, so gave up that thread.

But you were right! All set now. Thanks.

And I love that Todoist offers this support! Love your product and your service.
