Push notification reminders option not available

CH

I have the Premium service and I want to set up push notification reminders to my iphone.

I have the app downloaded on my phone, but when I go into Settings/Reminders, it says "You don't have mobile devices with Todoist application installed."

And the option for mobile push notifications from the default reminder drop down menu is grayed out (not available to me).

Please send instructions on how to fix this. Thanks.

Cindy,

In order to associate a mobile phone with your Todoist account, log into your account on the web (http://todoist.com), click the 'gear icon' in the upper right hand corner, select 'Settings', select the 'Settings' tab, and setup your phone.

Once you've done that, you should be all set to receive reminders on your mobile phone.

Best regards,
Randy Miller

I had done that already - my phone number is entered correctly and I sent myself a SMS to make sure it worked, and I received the text message.

But in the default reminder drop down menu, it still does not give me the mobile push notifications option, and it still says "You don't have mobile devices with Todoist application installed."

Hi Cindy,

Please try uninstalling the iOS app and reinstalling it. For some reason, at times the installation either does not get added or gets removed from that page. Reinstalling it should re-add it to your account.

Thanks,
Brendon.

Still didn't work. I logged out, uninstalled the app, reinstalled it, logged in, and I'm still not getting the option for mobile push notifications.

Cindy,

Which mobile device are you using, which version of the OS are you running?

Thanks,
Brendon.

Cindy,

This is very unusual. A re-install of the app should add the device to the list of devices activated with Todoist.

So to clarify, you completly removed the app, did you restart the phone or anything? (not exactly needed) and then downloaded it from the App Store?

I will let the developers know about this but at the moment I am not able to reproduce the issue.

Regards,
Brendon.

Hello Cindy,

One more thing you could try is to add one task through the mobile app and perform a sync by pulling down your task list. Does this make the device appear on the list?

Also, do you refresh the page on the web to make sure the list in the settings itself is up-to-date?

Best regards,
David

what is the difference between an sms notification and a mobile push notification?

Hello Lorna,

A push notification is one that a modern smartphone will display in its notification center and in case of Android, these allow you to complete, postpone or snooze a task right from the notification.

SMS notifications come in a standard SMS message text form, with no additional functionality, however can be received by any phone.

David

Hello,

I have the problem with push notifications as well: I have added my device to Todoist device list, it sends test push notification. But in Todoist web app I can not set reminder on the task as push notification as it is greyed out.

Where is the problem?

Laurynas,

This may be a cache issue with the web version. Please try signing out, clear the cache for your browser and sign back in. Does it still show greyed out?

Regards,
Brendon.

Hi there. Can someone tell me why one of my devices is greyed out in the 'Manage Your Devices' list on the settings tab? I Have 2 devices listed, but one is greyed out. Is this normal?

Hello Jim,

Please make sure that this device is allowed to send you notifications and if it's an iOS device - also use the "Background App Refresh" feature.

Also, try to delete this device from the list, reinstall our app on it, log into it and see if it helps.

David

Ok, tried that. Reinstalled app on iPad, but now the iPhone is greyed out in the Devices list. What does the greyed out bit mean?

Background App Refresh is selected on both devices, as are notifications. Both devices have latest iOS version.

Jim,

I have passed it to our developers as it's the first report we've got about a device being grayed out on this list :(

In the meantime, please try to remove all devices from this list, log out and back in (on each mobile device) and see if it helps.

David

Jim,

Thank you for the screenshot. If you're referring to the gray background - that's our styling to differentiate these devices, if you had 3, the 3rd would have a white background, but the 4th would be gray again etc. :-)

Ok, thanks! The only question I have left is this: do I need to have wifi/mobile data turned on all the time to get notifications? (This appears to be the case on my iPhone.) Leaving mobile data on full time depletes the battery - is there no around this?

Jim,

Yes. As of now there are no offline notifications for iOS at this time.
