Adding Attachments

Hi,

I'm trying to add an attachment to a note, but I am not seeing the dialog box that would let me browse to the file or drag and drop it into the note.

I click on the Note Icon for the task, then in the Note window, click on the Attach icon at the bottom. When I do that, the note moves down in the window and I'm presented with a big blank space. This is happening on the desktop client, the Chrome plug-in and the Outlook plug-in. I'm logged into my account and I have a Premium membership that doesn't expire until August of 2014.

Am I missing something or not understanding how to add an attachment?

Hi Howard,

Does this happen with every single task, or just one or few? Do these tasks have any long notes already attached to them?

Please try clearing the cache for IE & Chrome and see if it continues to do so afterwards.

It's happening on all tasks in all projects. And now when I click on the attachment icon, nothing happens. There are no long notes attached to them and clearing the cache on the 2 browsers did not help.

I have tried this on 2 computers, one with Win 7 Pro and another with Win 8.1 Pro and get exactly the same results - it doesn't work on the desktop version, the chrome extension, and on the Win 8.1 machine, on the Outlook plug-in.

But interestingly, if I log on to todoist.com and try from there, it works on both machines using IE10, IE11 and Chrome Version 30.0.1599.101 m.

I tend to log in using Google. Could that be affecting anything?

Howard,

The only way signing in with Google could cause the issue is if it's signed into a different account which is not Premium. This of course would cause issues.

Normally if it does not work in the Chrome extension, it will not work within the website on Chrome, so that is odd. Do you have any extensions installed for Chrome, how many plugins are installed for IE? If you disable all of them, does the issue persist? Even though, these extensions should cause issues to the site as well it may be worth a shot to check them out.

I do have other extensions installed in Chrome and other plugins in IE. I have tried disabling them all in both browser with no change. I uninstalled all instances of Todoist (Chrome, desktop, Outlook), rebooted and reinstalled with no change.

It does look like you have another report of the same thing now.

Let me ask this: What kind of behavior could I expect to see on the desktop and Chrome apps if I didn't have a Premium account? Could it be that the local versions don't recognize that attribute but the web version does? I am thinking that it might be something that is not being communicated to my local versions. Grasping at straws perhaps...

Forgot to add this earlier - I did clear my cache earlier but that didn't help either.

Hello Howard,

Unfortunately, due to Chrome's limitations, this feature will not work in our Chrome extension - Chrome doesn't seem to allow sending files through extensions.

I've been able to reproduce this issue on the Windows app, though. We're already working on a rewrite of our Windows app and the Outlook plugin which will address multiple issues the current versions have. Although we can't give you any specific timeframe when they will be released, it shouldn't take too long at this point.

Thank you! At least now I know I'm not going crazy. Strange thing - was at work earlier and am now home. I have more computers here and on one of them (also Win 8.1 and synced with the others so add-ons are all the same) it does work on the desktop app.

At least I know that I can use the web when I need to add an attachment. Thanks for looking into this and for your quick replies. I love Todoist - it's the best app out there (and I have tried more to do apps than I can remember).

Hello Peter,

Unfortunately, that's beyond our control, it's a limitation of the Chrome browser itself - it doesn't allow extensions to transfer/upload files. We hope it will be lifted in future versions of Chrome, you're welcome to contact Google about it.

For now, you can upload files to notes directly through the web-app at https://todoist.com
