Sorting by priority has suddenly stopped working (again)
Sorting tasks by priority has suddenly stopped working (again). Just a simple default today query has them all mixed up. Switching browsers doesn't help. Clearing the browser cache doesn't help. Logging in and out doesn't help. I have not reordered tasks manually.
This seems to happen periodically. It really reduces the usefulness of the task listing. Please try to figure out what is causing it.
We're sorry to hear that. It's a rare issue which has been reported to us by a couple of our users, but although we've double-checked all the code responsible for the sort order and tried to reproduce it multiple times, we still can never trigger it and to identify the source of this issue, we'd need to know what exactly triggers it.
If there's anything specific that you did before this happened that you normally never did before and suspect that this might have triggered this bug, please let us know.
I am not aware of having done anything unusual. Can you troubleshoot it using my account right now if I give you permission?
Technically, we could (with your permission) clone the structure of your account anonymously (all tasks, projects and any data would show up as xxxxxxxxxx), but we've done that in the past with another customer and unfortunately it didn't help as although we could see how the order is incorrect, all the data had every property set correctly and there was nothing wrong with the tasks themselves.
That said, we must find the circumstance that actually triggers this as it will point us to the function or set of functions and situations that shows the tasks out of order.
Here's a possible clue: I had been traveling and changed my time zone. I don't think the sorting problem appeared immediately after that, but today when I returned home and reset my timezone, sorting by priority appears to now be working correctly again.

Ok, the problem is back and I think this was the trigger: I changed the priority of a task from within the Today view and suddenly sorting by priority stopped working. Don't know if it matters but I changed a P2 to a P1.
The workaround seems to be that if you go back to a project view and change the priority of a task, then sorting order is restored.

Although I still can't reproduce it, please clarify - the moment you've changed the priority - did the task jumped instantly to the top (or upper area) and then the sorting was broken after you've refreshed the view or did it got broke already at the time you've changed the priority?
I can't reproduce it now either. But I think I changed the priority while actually editing the task from within the today view and I think the sort order was immediately messed up as soon as I saved the task. It was restored when I went and changed the priority of a task from within a project view.
Another contextual note: I had been using todoist from my home PC and this happened right after switching over to using it on my work laptop. I think I had closed the previous session on the home PC. I had not been editing the task in question in both places.

Also, please note that you can quickly change a priority without editing the task by right-clicking on it and picking the new priority from the context menu.
I'm a new user and am having the same issue. I am accessing my data on two pc's and via an ipad app; the sort order is off on the ipad app as well as the web.
Please clarify - are you only referring to the sort order on the date-based views or also within the projects?
Also, have you tried to resync everything on all platforms? On a free Todoist account, you'll have to trigger the sync manually.
I've also been having the same problem since Friday on the Mac desktop tool (OSX 10.8.5 / tool v3.1), web interface using Google Chrome with a Todoist Premium account , however iOS7.0.4 is fine.
This is when I'm in the today view, viewing both Today/overdue and then trying 7 days. Priority sort order is jumbled.
In the project view there is a setting tool I can use to select how items are sorted ie. by date or by priority however this tool isn't available in the today/overdue view.
The only thing that's changed in terms of behaviour is that I upgraded to iOS 7.0.4 mid week last week, however iOS is working fine and the jumbling happened 2 days after the upgrade.
No matter what I do to the Today/Overdue list in terms of changing priorities for some items, it doesn't re-order itself.
I can't work out how to resync my online and desktop tools - any tips would be appreciated!
We're sorry for the inconvenience, Unfortunately, we still couldn't identify the source of this issue. Technically, manually reordering the tasks in this view by priority should save the order and from there on, Todoist should remember it and add other tasks with the same priority to the same groups and maintain the order.
Hi, just a quick one from me. I have the same problem but just changed the priority on a couple of 'blank/no colour' tasks and they re-ordered into sort by priority.
Just before that I went into a couple of projects and re-sorted by date.
One of the two or the actions combined made sort by date work.
