editing a single event in a recurring event

H

Dear Todoist

I have many recurring events. sometimes I want to edit, or actually potpone, by a few days just one event in the recurrence. Meaning: if every Monday at 20:00 I go for a jog, sometimes I want to postpone it, this week only, for Tuesday or Wednesday. The 'postpone' function, for some reason, cancels the single event (not the whole recurrence) completely. Trying to use the 'edit' task I could not figure out how to edit for postponing just one single event

Please your Help

Hello Meir,

Postponing works as if you would not want to complete this particular event, but postpone it to the next occurrence. We're working on a solution that will allow you to postpone a task by a week, but for now, we always recommend leaving a task as overdue and then simply checking it off once you get to do it. This way you'll keep track of what tasks are actually missed as described on our blog: https://todoist.com/blog/2013/06/3-ways-to-drastically-improve-your-productivity/

However, if you do prefer to postpone the task by editing then theoretically you could use a "starting" date such as "every day starting Aug 4", but unfortunately, if the task should repeat on "every Monday", you can't use a starting date that's not a Monday. That said, leaving it overdue is currently the best option unless you would like to use "do it today" on this task every day.

Best regards,
David

Hi David
Thanks for your quick response. I will try and work with leaving my wished to postpone single event in the recurrence in the 'overdue' section.
I'll See how it goes....:-)

Thanks again

Meir

Hi - just adding my vote to move this to a high-ish place on the list. I have the same issue. I may have something set to start on the first of the month, but that particular day is too busy for me, so I want to postpone it.

I haven't found leaving the undone tasks unchecked to be helpful--when i look at the "today" view they're not there. I have to remember that there were leftovers from the day before.

Thanks!
Paula

I also think being able to edit one occurrence of a recurring event would be helpful, both to be able to add a few details to that particular occurrence, and to be able to postpone that occurrence to another day. Thanks.

You could use the 7 days view and drag and drop the task on the day you like. That's what I do.
