Why is desktop version so spartan? DOS days are long gone...

This is an interesting application and I would like to like it, but;
Left panel is available on smaller screens (smart phones and tablets), but not on big screens (laptops and desktops). I don’t get it!?
Simple shortcut (Ctrl+letter) is available for adding task, but not for “Show Menu” or “Settings”. I discovered shortcut for “Show menu” (shift+command+?), but not for closing the same.
While doing something by writing “codes” in simple English is OK for some actions, simple click and select would be much easier and more practical for other actions.
I believe Einstein said: "Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler than that."

The desktop version has a drop-down menu whenever the window is small enough. If you have the program full-screen, or just large enough the menu will show like it does on the web version.

We will consider adding more keyboard shortcuts in the future, (http://todoist.com/Vote/showProposal/702/).
