Recurring tasks not showing up

I have a problem with daily tasks not showing up. Sometimes it seems that if I don't check off a task today, it will not show up tomorrow. I have several daily tasks listed and I don't always go back to my computer to check them off until the next day and some I totally skip.

For the tasks I skip I have found that "delete task" deletes the task COMPLETELY, not just for that day, so I have been postponing tasks. How do I handle tasks I should do everyday, but don't?

Hello Barbara,

Thank you for contacting us. The best way to handle uncompleted task is to not do anything with them. When an "every day" task isn't completed, it becomes overdue (keeps the past date). All default search features include overdue tasks so if you search for (overdue, 7 days), you'll never miss those tasks. This will actually help you keep track of such tasks and treat them with higher priority as you'll know you've missed them.

Postponing can be useful only if you know already that today you will certainly not be able to complete a task, it will move it to the next occurrence.

We wrote a post on our blog lately with 3 great tips to increase productivity and two of them actually explain the advantages of the advised handling of overdue tasks: https://todoist.com/blog/2013/06/3-ways-to-drastically-improve-your-productivity/

Best regards,
