Outlook plug-in DNS error
I installed the Outlook plug-in, just downloaded. Installation worked and when I open Outlook, the Todoist Pane shows up, but the only thing in the pane is: "Error: DNS Name Not Resolved"
I am using Outlook 2012 (version 14.0.6129.5000 32 bit)
Also, is there a tutorial on how to use the Outlook plugin? Or will it be intuitive once it works?
Please try to uninstall the plugin (it's listed as "OutlookTodoist" in Programs and Features) and install this version: https://d2dq6e731uoz0t.cloudfront.net/23ba6af99340be5655be8317812129dd/as/OutlookTodoist.Adx.RC.exe and let me know if the issue persists.
If it does, make sure you have the latest version of Internet Explorer installed (the plugin uses IE to connect), clear IE's cookies and go to the "Run" menu (Win+R) and type: ipconfig /flushdns
I tried your new version. Same error. I've only been trying to use todoist for a week. The first bug that I hit was discovering that 30 tasks that I sent to my todoist project email address got dropped by todoist. Second bug is that I can't work offline. Now I get the dns error stuff. I need to trust this solution if I'm going to use it as my primary todo list manager. Your solution looked promising, but your quality is poor. I paid for a subscription and was planning to roll it out across my organization, but I will request my money back, unless there's some extremely good explanation for the litany of problems that I've experienced.
We're very sorry to hear that. We deeply care about the quality of our service and there was indeed a bug with the mailing server, but has been fixed shortly. Please tell me - did you report this issue to us?
As for offline work - please clarify, how exactly are you accessing Todoist offline? The mobile apps can work completely offline, the rest can work offline if you're already logged in and lose your connection while using Todoist.
As for the DNS issue - unfortunately, we can't reproduce it. I can confirm that there's currently no issue with the DNS server which hosts our domain, therefore the problem must be local. If you could answer the following questions, we would greatly appreciate it and help you solve this issue better:
- Have you tried running ipconfig /flushdns through Windows' "Run" feature?
- What version of Windows and Outlook are you using?
- Are you behind any firewalls or proxy servers? If you're in a work environment, have you tried contacting your system administrator about this issue?
I think you are right about the firewall. When I got this DNS error yesterday, I was at work. Today, I'm not at work and the plugin works fine. When I log onto company network, I get an error (doesn't say DNS, just "unknown error"). So it must be company firewall.
What is the DNS server that the plugin is trying to access so I can discuss with our IT people?
HOWEVER - I still don't know how to use the plugin.. what integration does it offer other than being a window in my outlook?? I thought I would be able to drag my emails over and make them tasks?? Is there a tutorial video somewhere??
Our domain is hosted on Amazon (Amazon Route 53: http://aws.amazon.com/route53/ ). It's possible that it's a matter of running /flushdns on your company's servers. Please tell the administrators that the requested domains are todoist.com and cloudfront.net also amazon.com or amazonaws.com should be accessible.
As for a tutorial - basically the plugin is indeed a frame to the Todoist site, but it allows you to add email as task. To see how it works, please watch this short video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muSIVBiV71I
In addition to this option, with Todoist Premium, you could also forward/send emails to Todoist's projects directly without using the Outlook plugin. We wrote about both option on our blog: http://todoist.com/blog/2013/01/zero-inbox-policy-with-todoist/
Perfect, that's exactly the solution I was looking for! Good chance I'll upgrade to Premium if I can get the company firewall issue figured out, thanks!
Hi, don't know if this helps but I got the same error a few days ago and noticed that every time outlook comes up but there is no internet connection established yet, the error occurs.
