Adding an email as task doesn't seem to work using Gmail in Vertical split view

Hi there,

I'm currently looking at moving from Google Tasks to Todoist for task management. The only feature I really needed was the ability to turn an email into a task (keeps me at Zero Inbox).

But I also tend to use Gmail in Vertical Split view (and Minimalist for Everything to provide more space).

I've noticed that the "add email as task" button doesn't show up using Vertical Split view. I imagine because it's only showing up in a pane and not the entire window focus.

Just curious if you guys could get "add email as task" to work in Gmail Vertical Split view.

Hello Scott,

Please clarify - are you referring to the views added by the "Preview Pane" Gmail Labs extension?

If so then unfortunately, it's not possible to use our "Add email as task" feature when using the Preview Pane. For this feature to work, our plugin must be able to see the unique ID of the message you've opened in the URL and the Preview Pane hides it and without the ID, Todoist doesn't know if you're reading a message and if then which one it is.

We're sorry for the inconvenience, but there's unfortunately nothing we can do about it at this point. You could try to contact the developers of the Preview Pane extension and ask them to reveal the ID of the message in the URL.

Alternatively, you could use the Premium feature "Email tasks to a project" which would allow you to forward any message to the Todoist project. Both options have been compared and reviewed on our blog: http://todoist.com/blog/2013/01/zero-inbox-policy-with-todoist/

Best regards,

Hi David,

Yes, I was referring to the Preview Pane Lab. That was my understanding about the URL needing the ID and I understand without that information your hands are tied.

I have sent a question on to the developers of the Preview Pane whether revealing the message ID could be done but I don't imagine much more will happen.

Thank you for your time and response.
