Notes : Can I add a link to a local file ?

Enjoying my todoist premium experience, and this is only my second question !

I know I can attach and upload a file to a note, but I am wondering if I can add a link to a local file.

The file in question is updated several times a day, so to keep uploading the revisions isn't practical.

I tried the usual URL of file://C:\ etc etc ( with %20% in place of spaces ) but clicking the link, my case a .xlsx file, did not open Excel.

I'm running Firefox 20 and I tried different file types, including .pdf, but still no luck.

Is there something I can do to get this working, or do I need to add it to the votebox ?

Hello Nigel,

Unfortunately, that's not possible right now, but we will consider adding such option in the future, You can vote for this request in our Votebox: http://todoist.com/Vote/showProposal/153/

Too bad Votebox is closed. How are the chances we get to see this feature, David? I too would love to be able to click on a task name and be directed to a folder or the file itself in my computer.

Hi Waldir,

Sorry about that! We don't have an ETA yet :-( As soon as we have more definite plans, we will share!

I would also like to see this feature (i.e. the ability to include a link to a local file to a Todoist task)

yep same here! I was amazed that I was able to create links to Lotus Notes using the "Notes:. . . " format. But equally amazed the file:. . . did not accomplish the same level of integration with native OS file browser.

Keep-up the good work!! ;-)

Galina, make sure you discuss it with devs. This feature would help so much!

Just discovered a hack to this, I believe.

In evernote, when you choose to copy a 'classic note' it goes: evernote:///view/...

So, if you put a couple more // after the name of the app, it actually works. For example, when I copy a branch in iThoughts as a link it copies ithoughts:/Users/...
I then add two // so it goes ithoughts:///Users/... and voila, it links to the branch.

Hope it can help you - and inspire the guys at todoist to make it easier to link to files. For example it would be wonderful if it would be possible to just drag and (ctrl) drop files into todoist to create a link to them.
