Migrating over from another tool to Todoist

I consider moving to Todoist after few years of using Remember The Milk. I'd like to import all my projects and tasks, labels and dates, notes and attachments. Any hints on how to do that?

Hello Tomek,

Unfortunately, that's not possible. All data will have to be typed in manually. Sorry for the inconvenience.

This flaw is simply preventing myself to stay with todoist permanently. I need to transfer tasks from toodledo. There are couple of hundreds in my system. I like simplicity, graphics, outlook plugin, chrome plugin but I just can not retype what I have... Pity... Import would help you get more customers for sure...

I agree with Jaroslav....should have a way to import tasks.

I found todoist is better than my current tool (Gqueus), and would like to migrate all my stuff - maybe bacup restore can help (but from a file if possible)

Hello Roushdy,

With Todoist Premium, you can import up to 150 tasks from a TXT file. Please take a look at this video showing how it works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Rl_CLGY_3o

David - that says export/import templates from inside Todoist

Yes that is correct, but it can be used to import tasks if you format a TXT file correctly. 1 line = 1 task.

Is there not some unofficially supported but 100% reliable way to export everything from WL to Todoist?!

Hi Jared,

No, there isn't. We'll consider developing one in the future though.

Do you know of any community solutions? Not officially supported, of course...
Please do make an effort to look into this before you say you're not aware of any.
No rush, take the time you need, IME little things like this give Todoist the edge over competitors.

Hi Jared,

The only way we can recommend right now is to export your tasks to a text file and import it in Todoist. At least for now, there are no other ways to import it.

A user has built a tool to transfer tasks from other services but the one you mentioned is not supported yet probably due to their lack of API.

How to do that?
Any limitations with that approach?

This tool is where?

Pretty sure WL have released an API some mths ago now.
Unless my mem's def. failing me...

Hello Jared,

Please open the Notepad, enter one task in each line and save this is a regular TXT file. Make sure that you have no more than 200 lines in this file. Then you can import this TXt file into a project as shown on this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Rl_CLGY_3o

The tool Clyde mentioned is https://todoport.com/index.html - it's unofficial and support only a few importing options, though.

For importing to ToDoist from Wunderlist I've found these two options:

Actually there's at least one more option in that 1st link.

Has anyone tried one "or more" of them?
Worked well enough for you, or too many issues?

Thanks David,

But I don't see how that's even close to being a solution for me...
Doesn't seem like it's even worthwhile trying, way too clunky/limited.

FYI WL did release their API some wks ago...
The author of todoport has approached them for help on making his app compatible.
Evernote support is first then he'll move onto WL, but no time-lines.

I don't get why todoist wants to make it so hard for new users to migrate.
It's really quite poor form....

I wish to move from Toodledo to Todoist. I tried Todoport with trial version of Todoist and it worked well except for lacking Notes. I assumed that I needed Premium so paid but no change, and no labels (contexts) either, so ToDoist is useless to me. Great pity. I will have to request a refund unless a solution has arisen since the previous posts.

Hello Paul,

According to our database, your Todoist account is Premium. Please log out and back into it to see the changes.

Hello David.

As I say, I did indeed decide to pay for a Premium account, expecting to be able to import not only the tasks but also the notes attached. I also expected the tasks to have labels (contexts) but sadly not. I can now create notes and labels for the imported tasks, but that is no help. Unless you can correct me, it seems there is no way of moving one's full data into Todoist, so I cannot use it and will have to request a refund. I note that it is possible to go in the opposite direction. In all other respects, Todoist looks superb, hence my efforts to move.

Hi Paul,

Sorry to hear about that. Your payment has now been refunded. Please check your PayPal account. If there is a recurring Todoist subscription, please remove it.

Paul, Todoport now supports task labels and notes if you are going to a Premium Todoist account. Might be too late for you, but I thought I'd mention it.
