Recurring reminder doesnt work

SB

Hello!
I added a recurring reminder to one of my tasks: "every day @ 13:00" (mobile). But this does not work. I dont get a daily sms. Other reminders like real dates do work. Is that a bug or did i something wrong?

Info: Using Firefox/Win7

Hello Sascha,

please tell me:
- Do you receive a test message if you use the "Send a test" option in Todoist Preferences -> Reminders?
- What method are you using to add a reminder? Do you type <remind every day at 13:00> within the task name or do you use "Reminders" from the gear icon menu?

Best regards,
David

Hello David,

- I receive the test message and i also received other messages when i used an exact (real) date for the reminder.

- in this case i used the point "Reminder" from the menu to set it up with the formular. But i will try it by typing the reminder behind the task name as you mentioned it.

Regards,
Sascha

Hello again,

tested it just this minute with adding <remind every day at 17:14> behind the task name (this is my local time). And it worked! So the problem seems to be adding it with the "Reminder formular" by the menu.

Sascha

Sascha,

please try to add a recurring reminder set to every day @ some hour in the nearest future using the "Reminders" option from the gear menu, but set it as an email reminder and let me know it you will receive it.

If you do, could you try adding another mobile reminders using the gear menu? It's possible that it might have been a temporary glitch at the time that you've set the recurring reminder earlier, but it would be very helpful to check if that's the case and if you can receive an email reminder with the same format.

David

Hello David,

i dont know why but at the moment nothing seems to work right. It makes no difference if use email/mobile or if i use the reminder gear menu or the <remind ....> command behind the task name. At the moment i neither get any reminder sms nor any reminder emails. BUT: Test SMS still do work. Yesterday the reminders using the <remind> command did work, but today they dont. Its a little confusing but maybe its a just temporary problem.

Sascha

Sascha,

indeed, there seems to be an issue with the reminders today. I've forwarded it to the developers and we will try to fix it as soon as possible.

I will inform you once it's fixed so you can confirm if it could have been the same issue affecting your mobile reminders recently.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Best regards,
David

Hello David,

current status: everything seems to be working fine. I get email reminders as well as sms reminders regardless of which method i use to add them (gear menu / <remind>). For the future of course its very important that everything works absolutely reliable so you can really rely on the reminders . But for sure sms is never a reliable service. It would be nice if you could implement push-reminders and offline-reminders which are set/updated every time when you sync yourself with the internet.

Regards,
Sascha

I'm having the same problem. None of my recurring reminders remind me at all. I've tested using email, SMS, Push Notifications, nothing works.

When I do the test on the site to those devices, it works. But if I set up any task with a reminder, I don't get anything.

Please help! I need this to function properly.

Hello Gary,

Please tell me, what exact due date, time and reminder type, date and time are you using? Also, how exactly does it not work, you add a task with a date "today at 6pm", for example, set a reminder to "10 minutes before" and do you see the reminder added? Does it disappear after you add it or just not arrive?

David

Maybe I'm just used to other apps. For example, at 30 minutes before 2p I
needed to be reminded to do something.

in iPhone I've chosen todist in settings and "alerts" (Alerts Require an
action before proceeding)

So, at 1:30p today, I must have been notified, but I was not near my phone.
But there was nothing on screen when I looked at 1:45p. It was buried
way into the system having to scroll to find the alert. Which defeats the
purpose of being reminded if you have to search to find an alert.

Shouldn't the alert stay on the front of the phone until I do something?

Or is there a better way to be notified? SMS?

I'm clearly not understanding the work flow. This morning I had a task at
8am. I set two reminders: 0 min before for an alert. 10 min before for
an alert. I was at my desk with the phone at 8am and nothing showed up at
all. No sound, nothing.

That's when I rechecked my iphone settings and waited to see/hear what it
would do at 2pm.

Gary,

Our alerts are standard push notification the every app uses. If your phone is in regular sleep mode, when the time of the reminder arrives, you should hear the standard notification sound and see the alert. If you don't pick it up, it will stay on the lock screen as any other notification until you unlock your phone. After that, it will be in the notification area of your phone.

Now, to identify this issue, we need to know what date and time did you use exactly - letter by letter. Did you type exactly "today at 1:30p" into the date field of the task? Or was it "today at 1:30pm" or "today @ 01.30p" or "tod at 1:30", please let us know as without this information we can't reproduce this issue or identify it.

Aside from that, please try to set a test task using the date format "today at 1:30pm" phrased exactly like this and set at least 30 minutes into the future and let us know if you get the reminder (you should get one 30 minutes before the task's deadline).

Best regards,
David

Reminders continue to not work for me. I can't stress enough that the only reason, and I mean the only reason I upgraded to premium was for the reminder function. However, it either works some of the time or not at all.

I can send you screen shots of what I have set up if you like. Just let me know. Basically I set up yesterday a generic reminder
"did you take your vitamins". I set it to repeat every day @ 9:15am

I then gave it two reminders to try. One reminder :30 minutes before that would go to my email. The second reminder at :00 minutes as a SMS to my iPhone.

This morning, I didn't get the email at what should have been 8:45a (:30 minutes prior to 9:15a) and I didn't get anything to my iPhone at 9:15a (:00 minutes before).

I checked by sending a test email which I got. I tested giving an SMS test, which I got.

WHY DOESN'T THIS WORK?

I Can't continue with a program that may or may not remind me. I need something I can rely on. So far it's a complete crapshoot each day of if it will work on not.

Please help

Gary,

We're very sorry for the inconvenience, but to identify this issue, we need some details and we'd greatly appreciate if you could please let us know:

1. When exactly do you add the reminders - after you save the task or during the process of adding a new task?

2. After the time of the reminder passes, do you still see the reminder being set up for this task or does it disappear?

As soon as you can answer these questions we can get a clear idea what's the cause of this issue, where to look and how to fix it. Without this information this could be literally anything incl. task killer apps on your phone, any problem with any part of code in our app etc.

1. I've done it both ways. That is, I try to set up the reminder prior
to adding a new task. And I've set up a task and then went in and added
a reminder after I've clicked "add" or "save.

Tell me which is the preferred method

2. I see the attached screen shot:

Gary,

1. Both methods should be fine, we just needed to know which one you've used to debug this issue.

2. Unfortunately no attachments have arrived. Please send them to david@todoist.com and brendon@doist.io or let us know if the set reminders disappear after the time passed.

Not sure what you mean "if the reminders disappear after the time
passed" It's still in my today box with the 9:15am in red (as having
past). But the reminders don't disappear on the task. If you click on
the three ... and then go to reminders, they're still set at:

email 30 min before
phone 0 min before

Should I delete and try it again tomorrow with something completely new?
Or should I leave it the way it is and see if tomorrow it will notify me?

Gary,

Thank you for the screenshots. We are looking into this now, and I we will request more information if it's needed.

It would be better to see if it works tomorrow without creating a new one.

Brendon.

Gary,

One more thing - do you have notifications set to ON in the Android app (in the Notification Settings)?

I'm on an iPhone and yes the notifications are on. I sometimes get
notifications from other tasks I've set up. But it's hit or miss

Gary,

So you don't have any Android devices? In that case, are you actually online at the time the reminder should arrive? They are sent from a server so if you don't have a connection, you won't receive them.

Yes, I'm online when I should receive them. Also my iPhone is on my desk
and connected to the internet. FYI, I get Remember the Milk alerts on my
phone and to my email just fine.

I was trying to decide between RTM and Todoist because of the interface.
I enjoyed Todoist much more than RTM. However, RTM is rock solid. It
always reminds me when I set it up.
