Hello Tarrey,

we're glad you enjoy our application.

We have another application for team-based work where you can assign tasks to other team members. It's called Wedoist and you can find it here: http://wedoist.com/

We hope you'll enjoy it as well.

I tried wedoist and it seemed a bit too much for us. We like Todoist a lot as it is clean and simple to use. We would far rather have team sharing integrated into Todoist - this is a feature that we would pay for.

Hello Ken,

although we are planning an integration of Todoist and Wedoist, for now please take a look at some videos from out guided tours through Wedoist and see how simple it really is :)

Best regards,

Hi. Although I applaud the idea behind Wedoist, I am willing to pay for Todoist+Wedoist integration (or at least have Todoist users share tasks).

I would also like for todoist to have sharing capabilities.. and would also pay for said feature.

todoist is so much better than wedoist, the task organization abilities of Todoist are simply not present in the new application. Build on your strengths and let us add users to a todoist account!

Hi David,

I am happy user and also got my team into todoish. Certainly wedoish is not as much attractive as todoish.

How do I automatically share his task with mine in todoish.

As of today he exports the template to me and then I import it manually. This will certainly not work in long run.

Hello Chirag,

We're currently working on merging Todoist and Wedoist so that tasks added through Wedoist will appear on your list in Todoist and vice-versa with many great options this update will introduce.

For now, you can use the "Send email as task" feature to add a task to someone else's list via email. Simply right-click on a project, choose "Email tasks to this project" from the context menu and in this window, you'll see the unique email address of this project and at the bottom, you can add someone else's email addresses which will be accepted for adding tasks. If you share your project's email address with your team and everyone adds each others' addresses to their lists, you could send tasks this way.

Alternatively, you could use Wedoist with one of Todoist's browser plugins. Each time you open a discussion about a task or a status update, the URL will point directly to the particular discussion. This way, you can use the "Add website as task" feature in Todoist to create a task pointing to it.

Hi David,

Any updates on Todoist integration with Wedoist?

I am in search of a family/small group cross-platform (iOS + BB10) task management tools that group members can see each other's list and assign tasks to each other. Is that a direction you guys may head to?

Hi Hua,

Unfortunately there are no major updates yet, but we are currently testing sharing internally. So the feature is coming. Though we do not currently support BB10.

Hi David / Brendon,

Any updates on this? After struggling with other collaborative tools we came across todoist and really love it.

Will go to paid version as soon as sharing and assigning tasks to other members is a live feature ;-)

Thanks again for all your hard work!

Yes, our major update has been released and you can now share projects with people. Please sign out and back in again to see the changes.

Hi Brendon thanks for your reply - I can see how I can share projects with others and I can also see that under filters there is an options to filter tasks by 'Assigned to others' so there must be a way now to asign a task (not a project) to someone else - but how???

Is this a feature in the paid version only?

Forgive my ignorance ;-)

Many thanks,

You can only assign a task from within a share project. We will consider allowing single task sharing in future updates.

For all other noobs - I worked out that you can only assign tasks to others when the other person has accepted the invite. You can then add it to others or yourself.

Hope this helps ;-)

So if I have someone in a project I created, how can they assign a task back to me?

Hi Arp,

The same way you assign tasks to people. When creating/editing the task there is going to be the assign option for them.

can you assign a task within a shared project to multiple people?

Hi Adam,

You can only assign tasks on shared projects to only one person for now. If it's a big task, I suggest to break it down to even smaller tasks so you can assign it to individuals instead of several people.

I cannot assign a task to someone unless:
1) they are included in the shared project that the task is in, or
2) I dump the task in the Team Inbox.

#1 (adding person to a shared project) is not ideal when there is a Marketing team/project and we need to assign only 1 specific task to someone in Accounting team that is not a member of this project. It does not make sense to add this Accounting person to the entire project just so that I can assign 1 task, right?

#2 (Team Inbox) takes the task out of the project that it's a part of and scatters the project tasks into 2 folders. And the fact that EVERYONE can see EVERYTHING creates clutter & security/permission issues as well.

I really should be able to assign a task to any team member from any project, no?

Do y'all at Todoist see this as a desired feature or a current limitation that will be corrected soon?

You can do this from any project, you just have to share the project first. Right click on it, Share. Though we will look into improving this.

Yes... if you could allow for assigning a task to a user who is not
specifically a member of that shared project, that would prevent a lot of
task clutter and help improve focus/productivity.

This way, a few people can have full view of the entire project and assign
specific tasks to others (like outside contractors) without sharing the
entire project to them.

I like Ben's idea as well and I think the current options are a restriction. I would like to go one better and suggest that an individual task (or multiple tasks) be able to be shared outside of Todoist - ie emailed to someone. Not everyone uses the same system or even wants to join a new system just because of a couple of tasks. An emailed task could be 'completed' or 'updated' via email reply.

Hi - I just read all the comments on this topic since 2011 and am wondering if there is yet a way to assign a task to an individual without them seeing everyone else's task in that project. For example, I run the company and am shared on many projects but have just a few tasks assigned to me in each one (ie, documentation approvals or key outreach). My todoist is jam-packed with a zillion tasks for others I do not want to have to see when managing multiple priorities. It would seem there should be an easy way to "share" a project but only show what is relevant to that person you are sharing with. I have been allowing my team members to upgrade to paid version and this is the one consistent complaint I am hearing, so please advise how quickly it will be resolved.

Although this topic is from 2011, this was created long before we even had sharing. Sharing is quite new. There is no way to change whom sees what yet, but we will look into improving these options in future updates.

Hi all,

Sorry to revive an old thread but it sounds like the place to ask my question.

Is there a way to assign a name to a task without that user being added to the account?

My manager is trying to add names to tasks but it's only allowing for people that are on the account. We want to add outside users and there's no need for those people to see the tasks. He wants to print out the list and share it.

The only way would be to use Labels @name within the task title.

Just discovered todoist last month and it has been awesome.

I'd like to cast my vote for the ability to share an individual task without sharing the whole project also. Do you guys have a suggestion box where people can vote on features they would like to see and also check on status of current features under development?

I know this thread has died and been revived multiple times over the last 4 years, but it has been great to see the progression of this feature. Your responsiveness to these issues is impressive. Thx!

Hi all,

Just had a quick scan through this thread and saw a comment from David about how Wedoist and Todoist would one day working together.

What I'm trying to figure out is that if we use Wedoist as a team for projects and a task there is assigned to me, does it appear in my Todoist inbox that I use as my personal task manager.

Also (not to look a gift horse in the mouth) is there any plans to Wedoist to get the features that I (and I'd say we all) love in Todoist such as sub-tasks, colour coding projects or lists, labels etc. etc. etc..

Thanks and serious kudos to the Todoist for the way they respond to people on these threads!

Hi Emmet,

Unfortunately, it' not possible to see the tasks from Wedoist in your Todoist account. Our plan is to invest in Todoist product rather than Wedoist and gradually bring the features that are currently available in Wedoist - to Todoist platform :-)

When will the features be added?

I think its time you guys update us with some information. Right now when adding things to new "projects" other people cant even see those project i just created?!

Todoist is a useless software if the most basic function is not working?

So can you link me to the update list where each update is explained what it does etc?
