Progress % and "folders"

When we add some child task in a main task, we could have a Progress bar (optional).

I use the "projects" as "categories" like (work, home, shopping, others) and tasks in "work" for example, i use a main task for each work project and child tasks for each activity. So in my case, progress bar would fit very well to control my work projects.

The choice to "hide" the checkbox in some tasks (to behave like a folder) would be fine too.

uh, and sorry about my bad english =S

Hello Rael,

thank you for your suggestion.

As for hiding the checkbox - this option is already available. You can hide it by adding an asterisk * at the beginning of the task title.

I think that the % feature is a must one !!

Just add samthing like !d40% to text format that will be shown as progress bar for task.

Instead of a check button, one could have a progress bar for all tasks, which can be set individually (own assessment). If a task has a child, only they are given one and the progress of the parent tasks result from that of all child tasks.
That would be wonderful!

I agree too per the % option, but for subtasks... it seems overkill, one should opt for a full feature project management tool (with Gantt charts, resources managements... just my opinion)

I disagree regarding folders, it will take away the whole idea of simplicity as it will introduce another method/level of organizing wheres the whole fun of TODOIST is the flexibility using only Projects, Tasks, Priority and Labels. If you want a folder just create a label like [FOLDER 1] and that's it :)

+1 Nico!

I love the idea of !d40% on each and every task.

I nice interface might be Highlighting the text of the task.

40% of the line above would highlight through about the word "be" or into "highlight".

If you are dealing with child tasks, then add up the percentages and apply it to the main task.

I am constantly in various stages of tasks. Start one, take a step back. Start another. go back to the first with fresh eyes and new perspective. Complete it and return to #2 to complete it. Repeat.

I think this would be optional choice. Personaly I dont want progress bar on each project..

I am voting more for ability to group projects to Folders or Categories to be more compliant with GTD methodology.

Hello Lenka,

Thank you for your suggestion. For now, as a workaround, you could not only categorize your tasks in projects or sub-projects (on 3 indent levels), but also use task labels for contexts. For example, type @home or @work within a task's name and you'll be able to search for all tasks with this label.

David the problem that remains though is that tags are ordered based on popularity and not a-z (with symbols such as ! { @ placing it higher in the list, like in Evernote). The meaning of it is that at the moment when we want to search based on @home @work etc, we need to scroll down and look for it on the list.

I 've created a work around by creating a project for TAGS where I've made groups of tasks that only contain tags, as a link to the appropriate tags. That allowed me to manually order my tags in groups such as GTD / Contexts / Reference / Time Needed (view it here - http://tinyurl.com/bh7c57x).

However while this work on a normal browser, on the mobile app it's all a mess since tasks are not shown there in the same manner they are on desktop browser (the * symbol doesn't cancel the check box, they cannot be collapsed/expanded, etc).

Until these 2 feature happen (1. A-Z sorting of tags , 2. applying identical behavior for Todoist features on both browser and mobile apps) I'm afraid it is too difficult and cumbersome to use it for GTD or any large scale organization methods on the go (which is where we are all are nowadays, mobile).

Good luck

Tomer,

Thank you for your feedback. This solution can be used if you have a couple of popular tags and you know how they're named. Every label can be found just by typing @work (for example) within the search box so using a couple of contextual labels such as @home or @work doesn't require going to the full label list.

Cheers David,
That's true but also requires me to remember all my useful tags (and as you saw on the screen capture photo, I have all sorts) and therefor is only useful if we have a few of them.
The "mind like water" concept is that we trust a certain system to organize stuff for us so we will only need to execute our todos, and spend minimum time/effort on the actual system (this would be missing the point).

Anyhow I think I've passed on my thoughts on where I find Todoist not helping me to achieve greater control and productivity in various posts here in the forum/voteboxes/twitter.

I can only hope you will find it make sense to implement them :-)

Until the next major update, all the best,
Tom

I'd make this optional for people to enable, but I am not on board with this. Perhaps there should be a Vote No button for those of us who don't want this feature. The Vote button should be changed to a Vote Yes.

Having a progress status indicator related to every task is very important. There is no point in having a due date and not be able to see how far from complete you are for each task.

The major advantage is that people like me are having monthly reports and the bosses like to see the progress/completion status.

on May 09, 2013 - 08:56

I'd like to see subtasks within a task, and be able to set a percentage for each one as far as completion of the overall task goes.
