Windows 8/Phone 8 Application

Obviously, since Windows 8/Phone 8 apps can be written in HTML5/CSS/Javascript, ToDoist should have no problem whipping something good up!

It'd be nice to have an app with great integration and syncing that is fully featured. Plus, with the Win8 visual style, it'd look pretty slick too.

Anybody else think this is a good idea?

i vote for a windows 8/rt-app, with a neat "dockable" interface, and automatic popups that remind me about tasks, flying in from the top right corner.

a windows phone 8 app would be great too, although there seems to be at least one available already (unofficial, though) .

This would be awesome. Most devices around me are slowly turning to Windows 8 or Windows Phone, which makes me want to switch to Get It Done since they have an app for every operating system. I prefer Todoist though, so please make an app for us!

Please don't forget about Windows Phone 8! The PC program and Outlook add-in are great for me when I'm at my desk, but the mobile site is still clunky. A well-built mobile app that supports drag and drop for WP8 is what's missing for me before I lock in and support by purchasing "pro."

The sidebar feature is what I really need where 1/3 of the screen on Windows 8 is taken up by the Todoist Windows 8 App. I'm unsatisfied with using the Windows Todoist software and trying to fit it on my screen with all the other windows. The sidebar feature of Windows 8 apps was made for todo lists, at least that's what I thought when I got to test Windows 8 out as a beta OS.

It would seem that the Android side of things is going quite well already, I know because I run it on a Nexus 4. It would seem like a good idea to get a WP 8 version of the app into the market place to go with the W8 desktop version that is already out there.

With so many PC's run Windows, seem wide open for you guys to capitalize on the migration to the W8 platform that is about to take place as Android and the iPhone lose steam and interest by the already thrashed public.

WP8 is the only new thing going on.

I have stopped using Todoist because of the lack of Windows phone support.

Instead I'm using a fully integrated approach with Microsoft OneNote and Office 365 Outlook tasks.

I love Todoist, as it is essentially the Evernote of task management.
Please please please do not leave this petition out of the dust. I am migrating from Android to Windows Phone in December, and I desperately need a good task management system. So far, I have been able to survive on my Surface RT with the web app and the Chrome/Outlook apps on my desktop.

As the original poster says, you can make Windows 8/Phone apps in HTML5 and JavaScript. Judging by how well the web app is built, a Windows 8/Phone app should not be a problem. Any sign that this is in development and I will instantly subscribe to premium.

This would be a good move for Todist, as then it can claim to support all ecosystems. There is a benefit to developing on the underdog OS before others, as others will pick up this premium todo app over the other subpar ones in the store. You could secure users before any one else, simply for being the first!

I really need this as well. The desktop app isn't very touch friendly, and I am switching from iOS to WP8 (and already have 3 Windows 8 devices) by October. I can't stress how much this is needed!

Hello Patrick,

Unfortunately, we can't give you any estimated time, we're currently working on some big changes to Todoist in general, once that's done, we'll consider creating a native Windows 8 app which will make a port to Windows Phones easy, but again - we don't know when this will happen, we always work on any improvements until we're satisfied with the results instead of meeting a certain deadline so it's hard to specify when it will be done.

We also greatly appreciate Richard's work with our API and if his app will be done before ours, we will promote and recommend it too :)

Since the WP8 client will be available , please add the context filtering possibility as a minimum in Todoist.com/m.
Example - I need to switch to @shopping context while Im in supermarket - i dont need to browse all my projects whether the items "Buy something" are there.
Im sure its good idea to support WP8 devices because its rapidly growing numbers of users mostly from business sector. You can raise an objection that these people are mostly in Exchange environment - I have Exchange as well but I have choosen Todoist instead. I believe I have no other option to implement ZTD (should be implemented the most simpliest way as a metodology is itself) and have all information synchronized over all devices im using. Outlook task list does not meet this approach.

So what that says to me is at this point they have not started any work in developing this so it's at least 12 to 18 months away....

I would have thought you would have had at least 1 person working on this app for windows devices...

Clearly you guys don't see a market in developing this app for windows...

Let me just state the bleeding obvious for you....

Windows surface pro and rt version 1 just got discounted heavily.... Now they are cheaper then the ipad by $100 roughly. So they are flooding the market with the hardware...

This is good for a savy developer who wants to sell his products to a market that has a small amount of competition... Currently there are around 70 thousand units a day being sold according to the surface app developers website.

I think you are missing the boat here and will rue the day you decided to not develop a Microsoft marketplace version soon enough. The first one to release the good stuff will gain market dominance.

And considering how far reaching Microsoft products are I think to not be already developing a Microsoft version is business suicide. Apple are loosing market share to 2 other brands... Android and Microsoft you have a android version you don't have a Microsoft version and are not actively developing one. This will cause you to end up chasing someone else and be the follower not the leader....

Replied on Feb 15, 2014 - 14:31

I agree 102% with Chris George. Windows phone is a great OS and I see no reason for your company delaying the release date of this app. Its like you are afraid of something... Just saying. How long has it been since the suggestion was made. Don't you want your customers to be happy?

Please take the time to let us know your stance at this point. Are you still on the fence, it's under development, or not happening?

I'm looking for a service that natively supports whatever devices I use. Core to this use case is WP8 and Windows RT as I tend to use those to mitigate and delegate. When I'm at a PC I'm doing the tasks not planning them.

Richard's Metroist covers my WP8 needs well enough (thank you Richard), but RT is empty of a native experience. I realize you have a well fleshed out site, but let's be honest here, a website for this sort of thing is really not an ideal experience.

Yes this is long over do. If I see this announced I'll be so excited. But if I don't see it by the end of my year subscription, I might cancel and look elsewhere.

The font and icons are so ridiculously small I wouldn't have any choice but to leave.

Same here please. I'm looking for a service that integrates well with windows 8 and windows phone. Without that there is no need to consider a premium subscription.

As has been said before. When I'm at my desk, I do the tasks, not plan them. But when I'm commuting, I'd like to check and plan what needs to be done next. So the mobile angle is really crucial for me.

It would be nice to have an idea what the status is regarding windows mobil apps

I'm a Todoist user, and a software developer who knows WP8 development, so I'm working on a WP8 version. It is almost complete. I need volunteers for beta testing before I release it to the Store. If you are interested please send me an email to:
chris.ventas at gmail dot com. Thanks in advance for your support.

Thanks for all who contacted me for testing the app, I'll let you know when work is done and the app is open to the public. I'll let you know when we accept more testers.

I would also be happy to join in the testing process, as I am working on windows 8.1 app development myself. I would love to have a metro app for windows 8.1!

Hopefully they will add the Windows phone and RT app :). I am planning to buy a surfrace RT in the future. If after a year there is still no app, i will not renew my premium and will look for an alternative. :-o
