Outlook sync for Mac

SInce I live by Outlook at work, I was happy to find you have an Outlook feature. However it doesn't work on my Mac. Todoist is SO much better than the clunky Outlook tasks feature!

It seems that the developers understand that integration with Outlook is important - so why offer it only for Windows? Not interested in mac users as clients?! Hmm...

Hello Dan,

we care about all our Customers and we will certainly consider developing a plugin for the Mac version of Outlook.

For now, if you have a GMail account, you can easily manage your inbox with a variety of browser plugins (for Chrome, Firefox and "Todoist Anywhere" for all other browsers) and they will all allow you to add GMail messages as tasks to Todoist. Feel free to try it out.

Best regards,

Dear David Trey,

Your reply, being very 'political', is incredibly irritating. If you don't have this in development, just say so. Your gobbledygook reply is a pretense.

I suspect you can't make this plugin for Outloo 2011..... You wouldn't be the first to fail.

Also, you have changed in the last 12 months.......

Have another look at your first comment in this thread last summer......

Try some corporate reflective practice please.

No, we do not have this plugin currently in development, but we do have full intention to bring our app and service to as many users as possible. We are working on some major changes, major updates, and major fixes for many things at the moment. Once this is done, there is a much higher chance we can get started on actually developing the plugin.

I just want to make it clear that David never said we had it in development, but are 100% willing and planning on developing for it. We have changed, and are changing, and is part of the reason there is no development yet, but we believe these changes are for the better and once they are done they will allow us to create an even better plugin when we do so.

In my work place I constantly look for new ways to improve daily functionality. I normally do a fairly large amount of research before suggesting any new technology or software that could benefit certain areas if not the entire company. I decided to upgrade my account to further test drive this program. Todoist seems to be a great asset to our company for our daily functions because of the collaboration we require with all of our staff. However we use mac's heavily and outlook is our choice for email management. I am not 100% sold on recommending Todoist at this time because of the lack of integration with Outlook for Mac.

I hope that you are truly considering creating a plugin to solve this. If and when you do I believe I will be strongly recommending it for implementation, unless of course i find a better alternative before then.

Phoebe DeGroot premium

I think some of the problem with making this a feature is the fact that Outlook for mac doesn't have support plugins/add-ins. You'll find tons of great programs Salesforce, Sanebox, programs to add labels/tags have Windows Outlook plug-ins but nothing for Outlook 2011. So it may depend on Microsoft Office for Mac getting their ish together.

Christian Schmied premium
Replied on Mar 21, 2014 - 15:26

That could be the reason why thy don't bring a plugin over the last 2 years. But then it would be better to state this technical restriction and nobody waits any longer for a plugin that would never be released. I hope that with the next release of Office for Mac this behavior is changed. So we have to stay tuned again and still hope to get a useable integration with Outlook.

On the other side, if Todoist would support AppleScript then we could do some basic integration with AppleScript. The Outlook/Omnifocus Script works perfekt to create new tasks from Outlook items. I have tried to modify this script to use Todoist's API, but this works not so good as expected. An imported mail message which is in Richtext format looks really bad in Todoist's note field.

I was an Omnifocus user and loved it. But the Omnifocus interface for Mac is quite old and there is no plan or release date for Omnifocus 2. So I switched to Todoist and loved it too, because of its simple user interface. Some Omnifocus functions are not available, but these are mainly nice to haves for me. But an integration to Outlook or even an AppleScript support is really important for me. I don't to want type task from email message by hand in todoist any longer.

There are one or two young, but promising 'modern' email apps coming to market for iOS and OSX.

The ones I'm thinning of are still struggling with Exchange (why else use Outlook 2011?).

But if you guys @ ToDoist are planning to miss out a generation or two of email clients by keeping up with digital evolution, please say so....

Then many who have voted here was well as the thousands who can't be bothered, could join you by making plans to leave Outlook 2011 (and Office 365...) and start voting for one or two of the iOS clients aimed at integrating with some form of GTD.

So, what, for heavens sake, does ToDoist not integrate with clients the way Evernote and others have?

Rant over! :-)
