Edit multiple tasks at the same time

U

I really like the clean look and powerful features of todoist. One feature I have noticed in other task managers that todoist does not have is the ability to edit multiple tasks at the same time. For example, selecting several overdue tasks and moving the due date fr all of them, or selecting several tasks and assigning a priority.

Hello RJ,

although you can't change the priority of multiple tasks, it is possible to select them and edit some of their properties.

In order to do so, please press and hold the Ctrl key and (while holding it) start selecting tasks with the left mouse button.

When you select the first task, you'll see a blue menu bar at the top of the screen with options to:
- Delete the selected tasks
- Move them to a different project
- Change their date
- Update their date (this option is only available if you select recurring tasks and you'd like to postpone their due date to the next available event according to their date formula).

Best regards,
David

Thanks for the information David. Batch editing is a big time saver. I was trying to use the command key before (Mac).

After using Todoist for a while I find myself wanting more options for editing multiple tasks. Specifically, the ability to assign priorities or tags to multiple tasks would be a big time saver.

I agree with RJ, ability to assign tags to multiple tasks would be great.

I agree, I wanted to look at items with a crtain label and change their priority, but even with multiple edit I couldn't

I agree. The ability to assign priorities or tags to multiple tasks would be a big time saver and would greatly improve ToDoIst as a productivity tool.

My hope is that this would use the same framework as changing the date for multiple items.

Kind of hard to believe this isn't an option - selecting and editing multiple items is a standard user interface item in pretty much all applications. I especially want to label multiple items. Please expedite!

At first, I couldn't figure out how to edit multiple items. I had to google "todoist multi edit" to find this page in order to figure it out. At minimum, a tool-tip or default task when you first sign up or something describing how to edit multiple items would be great. I really like the todoist interface, but I almost gave up on it because I didn't see the ability to edit multiple items right away. So glad I now know, but other users may have the same issue discovering this feature.

I have noticed another function that would improve on the functionality if editing multiple tasks at the same time. Today I created a few tasks, then realized I wanted to nest all of them under another task. I had to do this one by one. It would be great if you could select multiple tasks and then drag and drop all of them together.

Hello,

Thank you very much for your suggestion, we appreciate it. For now, as a workaround, you can use the drag & drop feature to indent a single task. To do so, "grab" the task by its drag & drop handle (visible on the left side of the task while hovering over it) and while holding this task, use the number keys: 1, 2, 3 or 4 to instantly change its indent level.

Best regards,
David

I also vote for expanding multi edit to tags. With the upcoming enhanced searches, and saved searches, tags will be used much more. And being able to assign tags to multiple tasks will be handy when moving tasks between "saved search" lists.

I vote in favor of the following: It would be great if you could select multiple tasks and then drag and drop all of them together to another level.

I would also be nice if one could change the priority of all selected tasks.

I would also like to vote for multi edit of tasks' properties in MOBILE (in my case Android) app. No workarounds there...

And I would also like the ability to edit multiple tasks (prject, priority, date, label, etc...) on the iphone - 99% of my usage is out and about - so I need these features on my phone too please!

I too cast a vote for being able to set a Priority on multiple highlighted task items. Being able to set labels on multiple tasks would be pretty nice also.

Hello Saulo,

Unfortunately, you can't change the priorities of multiple tasks using the multi-select feature, but we'll consider adding it in the future as well as make multi-selecting easier.

David

I second (or third? or nth?) the assigning/changing priorities to multiple tasks feature...

I'm a Mac user, and the only way multi-select works is to use the command key, though the help docs say to use control. Of course, on a mac, Control-click means "right click", so this is problematic.

Why don't docs reflect Mac shortcuts as well. You support various platforms, so the docs should reflect it.

Also, I'd like to be able to edit the label of multiple tasks, instead of having to tediously edit each one and type @something.

Hello Rick,

In the documentation, we've mentioned: "CTRL+Click or Shift+Click on task - Select and update multiple tasks at once". That said, holding SHIFT should also work, please let us know in case it doesn't.

We will improve the documentation in the future and also add more options for multi-selecting.

Best regards,
David

Hi,

There is a consistency issue. When selecting multiple tasks, I can change their date in batch using the "change date" link. But when I right-clikc, only one task is changed. This is very confusing.

Please enable more fields that can be edited for multiple items.
I do a filter, get my list of 30 odd tasks and settle in for click fest, making the same priority changes to each one.

Also for fields we can change, I have to individually select each item; is a Select All available? (I filtered for a reason: I want to edit all these items)

Thanks
