Project/Task Correlation

Needless to say, I do enjoy using Todoist and find it very useful. However one perhaps more complex feature that I have been missing is being able to 'connect' more tasks together, in a sense that before certain task can be completed, you have to finish several tasks you linked to it; basically setting completion of certain tasks as requirements for another particular task.

Simple example would be, say I want to bake a cake, so I have a task in my 'Today' Project called 'bake a cake'; however before I can do that I have to buy some milk, which is a task in my 'Shopping' project. Obviously I would link 'buying milk' as a requirement for 'bake a cake', so I wouldn't be able to mark the task complete before I completed the task 'buy some milk'.

I know this could be deemed too complicated or too 'project managerial', but after all it's just a suggestion.

This is actually already possible by using sub-tasks.

For instance, you could create following sub-task structure to indicate connection between baking a cake and buying ingredients:
- Bake a cake (parent task)
- - - Buy milk (child task)
- - - Buy sugar (child task)
- - - etc.

Best regards,

Cheers, but I was thinking more advanced system, where you can link together tasks from another project, to prevent redundancies in tasks, as you cannot always group the tasks using the simple relationship Parent->child...

So it would be:

Project: Shopping
-buy milk
-buy something else

Project: Cooking
-bake a cake
---buy milk ('reference' to the task in Shopping)

You can do this by adding labels to cross reference and apply context...

- Bake a cake (parent task)
- - - Buy milk @shopping
- - - Buy sugar @shopping
- - - Mix ingredients
- - - Frost cake

- Make dinner
- - - Buy a roast @ shopping
- - -Preheat oven

Sort list by @shopping and you will see

Buy milk
Buy sugar
Buy a roast
