I'm having issues with ordering by priority in today view
I'm having ongoing issues with tasks not being ordered correctly by priority in the today view and also in the seven-day view. Tasks routinely show up in what seems to be random order. Can somebody assist me so that tasks are displayed in order by priority?

I would suggest clearing the cache for Chrome and restarting it and see if that resolves it.
Unfortunately, I am un-able to reproduce this issue. We will continue to look into it but without being able to re-create it, it's hard to find the solution.
This has been a long-term issue for me. I'm just getting used to having to manually move tasks to get them sorted by priority. Unfortunately, once you close Todoist and reopen it later, it's gone back to random priority sorting again. Random is the wrong word, it goes back to the same order before the manual sorting, but I can't figure out what the pattern is. It isn't due date or priority and it's not by the task creation date.
Can I still add to a thread after it is marked as answered?
I'm having the same issue in Firefox. I have just added a list of new tasks and then assigned them a priority.
As I added the priority, the Today list automatically reordered itself. But, the order is: P1, P3, P4, P2.
I have logged out, cleared cache and logged back in again.
After syncing to my Nexus 7, not all of the new priorities have been synced across. However, the ones that have still display: P1, P3, P4, P2.
Please tell me - do any of your tasks on the "today" or "7 days" have due times (today at 2pm, for example)? If so - the time is the primary sorting factor.
Also, does this issue also occur if you access your list through the web using a different browser than Safari? If not, then try to clear Safari's cache as our app uses Safari's engine and settings to connect.

I'm having the same issue on Chrome, and I've tried to clear the cache with no effect.
I have this issue using Chrome both on Mac and my Windows laptop. Clearing the cache doesn't help. Each day begins with a manual sorting of all my task to organize them by priority - some days it's worse than others, sometimes it's just a few and sometimes it seems like a totally random sort. I know one of the issues can be if I change the priority of a task, it will stay in the same spot on my list, even if I clear the cache.
We're sorry to hear that. If you remember at what point exactly did this start and what action has triggered it for the first time, please let us know as without this information, we're unable to reproduce and identify the source of this issue. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Oh it's not a new problem, I've posted about it before. I'm used to it now, just have to manually sort all my tasks every day. So long as the browser is open, the sort will stay in place, but once I close Chrome or log in on a differnt pc or my Mac, I have to start all over again.
We're sorry to hear that. Still, the only way to know how to fix it is to know what's the exact action that triggers it for the first time. We've even received permission from another affected user to check the data on his account and even this didn't seem to help as technically the sorting function seems to work correctly as this happens.
That said, it must be a certain different function that breaks it and then affect the work of the sorting function, but we don't see which one especially after it's already broken. The only way to find it is by knowing when exactly it starts :( and we could never trigger it so far, we also use Todoist ourselves extensively and it doesn't seem to affect the majority of our users either (only about 10 users out of 700,000) so it's extremely difficult to find out the source of this problem.
Unfortunately, this has been an ongoing issue for me as well. For example I just added a p2 for today which displays (within the project) below all other priorities for today, except for one p4 which was moved from another project.
The Today and 7 day views work correctly, so it doesn't bother me too much. However, sorting within projects is frequently flawed which is a pain, because for me "Work" is one project.
My pattern is I always use Firefox, periodically my iPad. I usually have large amounts of tasks I don't get to which I postpone or move days ahead. These postponed tasks generally are the ones that sort higher than they should according to priority, so the issue seems to be caused by constantly postponing or cahnging dates on tasks - it breaks the priority order.
Staff folks: What's the best cure? Clearing cache and deleting offline data?
This seems to be a different issue which should already be fixed. Please tell me:
- Does clearing the cache and offline data actually help?
- If not, does this happen only in this one project? Can you create a test project with a couple of tasks to confirm if it's also happening there?
- Are all your tasks parent tasks? Please note that sub-tasks are sorted separately within their structure.
Hi David, I'm willing to try clearing the caches and offline data to help out (and fix my problem).
I work across a couple of machines. Is there any sequence you think I should use?
In order of frequency of use:
- Windows laptop Firefox
- Mac desktop Firefox
- iPad 4
- Other Windows laptop Firefox
- iPhone 4S
Any specific instructions for these devices?

I am having the same issue on the iPad when viewing the list of tasks without due dates, it seems to list them as P2, P1, P3, P4.
No go. I cleared the cache and offline data on Firefox, haven't used any other devices to access ToDoist. P1s, and P2 created yesterday are listed below all previously created P2s (not P3s). This is in project view - "Work" which is where I need it to work. In Today view, everything is in the correct order.
If you're referring to the project view, please use the "p" key to sort tasks by priority or use the "Task" actions menu at the top. Please note that this feature reorders tasks on demand, it does not permanently place new tasks within the project on different positions until you sort them.
Well, that explains that. If that is the intention, then sorting within project works the way you want it to. However, I think most users would expect a 2 level sort in date sort - date by priority. That makes project view much more useful - for instance if all your work stuff is in one project and you want to concentrate on that.
The Today view always seem to sort correctly, so I don't see a flaw with that. However, the 7 day view is flawed, namely tomorrow. All of my P4s are listed above all other priorities, which are then in the right order so, it goes P4, P1, P2, P3. Other days further out appear to be correct.

As for the incorrect priority order under "tomorrow", please try to move them to the correct positions manually and from there on, they should group correctly.
