How do I fix the error Generic Failure Occurred ?
I see that this question has been asked before and I have tried the options given and nothing works.
I am using a laptop, Windows 7, 64-bit Operating System.
I downloaded the Windows version of Todoist and it worked very well. Yesterday, I got this error. I felt aprehensive as I thought my lists were gone but found them online. I had previously used Todoist online. I prefer it on my computer as it is quicker than having to go online.
Could I ask you to explain in simple terms how to repair this error as I am not a computer expert.

The first thing to try is logging out and back in again. In the windows task bar, bottom right there should be a Todoist icon, right clicking on that should give you options. Please hit logout.
Once that is done, follow the same steps and sign back in. Please tell me if you need this more simplified.
Let me know if this fixes the issue.

Thanks for replying to my question.
I can connect to my Todoist list online by typing in my email address and password. That works very well. You explanation was fine, thank you, but I don't think I explained my problem clearly enough.
My problem is the error I keep getting when I try to open Todoist from my desktop. I downloaded the Windows Todoist App onto my laptop. I then had a Todoist icon on my desktop and it opened up my list immediately. I dont have to put in an email address and password like I have to do when going online. I can also access it without being connected to the internet. It was downloaded onto my computer and it was put in my local disk C (on my hard drive) into Program Files (x86). It worked very well for a while until I tried to open it the other day and it gave me the error "Generic Failure Occurred."
Hope you can help.
Please clarify - have you tried to log out from the Windows app as Brendon suggested? When you open the Windows app, it adds a TD icon in your system's Notifications Area (System Tray). When you click on this icon, you'll see some options incl. "Logout". Try to log out this way and you should be redirected to the login page within the Windows app.

Thank you sooooo much. It works! I did as you suggested and then it asked me to enter my google email or another email address. I entered the email address and it opened my Todoist List. The page looks a little wider but everything else is exactly like it used to be.
Thanks for explaining so well.
I'm glad to hear that it works :) As for the width of the page - you can resize the window and if you make it wide enough, you will see the list of projects permanently on the left side. If you make it smaller, it will disappear and hide back to the "Show projects" menu at the top.
