Outlook email links are not perfect
I create a Todo item that references an email. If I move that email to another folder, the link in the Todo item doesn't work anymore. If I move the email back to it's original folder the link in the Todo item still doesn't work.
Am I doing something wrong or is this how it is suppose to function?

Unfortunately, in some cases (especially when using an Exchange Server), it's possible that the email links won't work after the email has been moved as each move may assign a different ID to this message.
We're looking into this issue right now and we hope to fix it in future updates. Sorry for the inconvenience.
For now, as a workaround, you could try to move the message first and then add it as a task, or try to forward emails to projects which wouldn't require linking them through Outlook at all. Please refer to this blog post for more details: http://todoist.com/blog/2013/01/zero-inbox-policy-with-todoist/
Thank you for you're feedback. We're sorry for the inconvenience, we're looking into this issue and we hope to find a permanent solution to it soon.
In the meantime, instead of using the plugin to link emails as tasks, you could try to forward emails to Todoist. This won't create a link to a message, but would add the entire message as a task note.
Please refer to this post on our blog comparing both options: http://todoist.com/blog/2013/01/zero-inbox-policy-with-todoist/
Thank you for the response.
I agree that moving first works fine, it just means that you have to "chase" the email into the new folder before adding it. I'm not averse to doing this for the time being, but it would save some clicks and scrolling to be able to add the item first and them move it.
The forwarding option works fine too, it's just more convenient for me to have the email linked so that I can reply more easily.
Unfortunately, we can't give you any specific timeframe on when this issue will be fixed, but we're working on it already and we're looking into better options of identifying the message than by the current ID we use (which sometimes changes, especially when using an Exchange Server). Sorry for the inconvenience.

We are working on this and many other issues with our current builds. We hope we can accomplish it soon.
For now, please make sure to try this unreleased version. https://d2dq6e731uoz0t.cloudfront.net/27d69392edce0cbd2d7128b9c74d070d/as/OutlookTodoist.Adx.exe

This would be incredibly helpful. Instead of clogging an inbox with emails I need to follow up with; i can delete the email. Then, when the task comes up in Todoist, i can pull up the email and reply directly with "hey did you figure this out" etc.
For the time being i'm creating a sub-inbox called "Todoist Projects" and putting all email in there. Then, when i complete the task i can delete it. Again it works, but not ideal.
Not ideal because at the end of the month i'll have 100 emails in that folder and won't know which ones are still pending and which ones are already worked-- meaning i'll have to finish the todoist task, then open that sub folder and delete the message. Any time that i forget that extra step will be a 'ghost' message in that folder that i'll have to eventually clean.

By the way, Brendon Wadley, what does the unreleased version do? I couldn't find any version notes. Does it link the messages a bit differently, or any other changes?
I create most of my tasks from Outlook emails so this feature is the most important to me. I was moving emails first and then creating tasks.
I installed 22.214.171.124 (from the link in Brendon's Sept. 9 message) and it works well (although it does take a while for the link to work it does enable the movement of emails). I was recently prompted to install 126.96.36.199; after installing it, the task links no longer find the moved emails nor can newly created tasks find moved emails. So, I reinstalled 188.8.131.52 and re-created the tasks.
Is this functionality planned to be fixed and supported going forward (in 2.5.x.x and beyond)?
I really like Todoist and the only thing holding me back from upgrading to premium is this feature as it's the most important to me.

I found the same thing, and it was a bit frustraiting that the 30+ tasks i had linked using the one from Brendon's message thinking that's one of the things patched; and now none of my emails are linked.
I went back to his unreleased version immediately. I thought it was just a bug from the upgrade, but now i see it affected someone else.
I agree with Mickey, without linking the email Todoist is of no use for me, that's the one key feature that I use Todoist for.

Interestingly, when I reinstalled the unreleased version, it linked all the emails back. It was great! So i didn't lose anything. Weird how that version still links the emails, but the new update wouldn't.
Thanks again for that unreleased version Brendon!

The unreleased version seems to work OK. but it hasn't rescued all the tasks created from emails before I installed the new fix.
Quite frustrating as I now have to track these emails down...

Could you please advise when we should see the fix for this issue. I downloaded a new version of Todoist this morning, but it doesn't fix this issue so I need to revert (again) to the unreleased version above.
It would be really nice to get this into the software releases, esp given you had a fix for it at least a month ago.

Could you please advise when the solution to this this will be integrated with your new releases.
As you have had a working solution since early September (included in your unreleased version provided on September 9), I would have thought that this would have been integrated by now.
If this is not coming in the near future, could you please advise how I get a refund on my paid up subscription, as this is a core requirement for me, and Todoist is of no use to me if I can't access emails saved as tasks once I have filed them. Especially given the lack of other key (and much requested) features like start dates, for which there seems to be no commitment.
Due to having to re-build the plugin and fix more than just this issue, it's taking a bit longer than we hoped. We are still hoping for it to be done soon, but no ETA.
If you'd like a refund though, and I understand the reason, please send an email with your transaction ID or reference number to email@example.com.
