Due dates on my projects are being changed or lost randomly
Two main problems I'm seeing with the web app (running Firefox 17.0.1):
1. On some recurring tasks, I'm losing the due date and recurring status. This seems to be happening with tasks that I've labeled important. Ex: Practice Spanish (was originally set to ev day) somehow got set to having no due date whatsoever.
2. On other recurring tasks, the recurring status is dropped and only the original due date remains. Ex: Contact Accountant (was originally set to ev day) now is showing as being due today with no recurrence.
I've tried to log out and log back in, no change. At one point it seemed like all of my important and recurring tasks had lost the due dates that I had set for them. I went back in and fixed all the due dates, just so I could get through my daily schedule, but have noticed a few switching back again. Please help.

Please try to:
- Upgrade to Firefox 18
- Go to Firefox's Options -> Advanced -> Network tab and clear the cache and offline storage data.
If this doesn't solve this issue, please tell me - is there any specific action that triggers this issue? For example, does a task lose the date every time you complete it or every time you add a sub-task to it, every time you collapse/expand it etc.?
Being able to reproduce this issue would greatly help us identify its source and fix it.
Please tell me - does logging out and back in at the office solve this issue? If not - how exactly are you prioritizing your tasks? Are you editing them and typing !p1 or !p2 within their names? Are you using drag & drop on the 7 days view?
David - just following up, I'm not losing the due dates on dozens of tasks at a time any more, but I'm still noticing one or two tasks losing their dates here or there, so the underlying issue doesn't seem to be resolved.
ALSO - I just noticed that an entire set of subtasks were completely deleted from my account sometime in the last 24 hours. Recently I created a task for gift ideas, plus several subtasks below it for individual ideas. Today only the main task remains, all the subtasks have been deleted and there is no record of it in completed tasks. Losing due dates is one thing but I get pretty concerned when tasks are disappearing outright.
Please tell me - how did you add these tasks? Did you use the web-app, the extension, mobile apps etc.? Were you online during this process?
Also, can you see these tasks when using a different browser and does clearing Todoist's cache (manually through Settings -> Advanced Settings -> Content Settings -> All cookies and site data in Chrome) help?
These tasks were all added using the web app. I was online at the time, using Firefox 17 (since upgraded to 18). These subtasks have been on my list for at least several weeks and I've had no issue viewing them over that span, but today when I viewed my task list with the same setup, they are not there.
I just tried viewing the Todoist web app with Safari 6 and Chrome 24, still having the same issue. Cleared the cache as you suggested, still not seeing the tasks.
Jonathan - this was a question to both of you.
Unfortunately, after countless attempts, we still can't reproduce this issue or create any circumstance that would result in any data loss. We will continue to do so and we'll notify you if we make any progress or would require any additional information. Sorry for the inconvenience.
David - thanks for trying, at least. Please let me know if you get a resolution, since I'm sure you guys realize that the reliability of task data is extremely important.
In the meantime, I have no choice but to look for a replacement task manager. I've been a Todoist user for several years, but the simple fact is I can't use the program if I can't trust it. I'm still having issues with due dates and tasks vanishing, plus the iPhone app is practically unusable for me, yet there are no resolutions to any of these issues. If you come up with a solution, please let me know.
Thank you for your offer, I'm afraid it may not help, though. Jonathan sent us some screenshots and we've tried to reproduce the circumstances in which this issue should occur, but it never did.
We're working on this issue right now, any data loss - whether due dates or even worse, whole tasks is a very serious issue to us and this has the top priority.
Unfortunately, I can't reproduce it either, I've added a task with this due date, saved it and it's saved with the correct date and maintains it upon editing, postponing and completing.
Ron and Jonathan - we've flagged your account for our debugging system and we hope to be able to trace the source of this issue if we see if any errors get returned by it. We would kindly like to ask you to continue using our service so we can log any issues.
Please try to install a browser you've never used before, log into Todoist on a computer with the correct time zone and the same timezone as you're using in Todoist and try to add one test task to your Todoist account through this new browser due "every Monday" and let me know:
- Does it say "Monday" or "Tuesday" after adding this task?
- What timezone are you currently in?
I use Chrome almost exclusively, both at home and at work. As you suggested I opened the Todoist website in Firefox and logged in. When I did I found that nearly all the tasks I have set for today in Chrome have been pushed to tomorrow in the Firefox view. When I refresh the page in either browser it has no effect on the view. However, when I log out in Chrome and log back in it shows the same view as Firefox with most tasks pushed to tomorrow.
I created a task labeled simply "Test Task" and set it to repeat every Monday. In Firefox it showed up on Monday as expected. When I changed to the 7-day view in Chrome it showed up on Tuesday. When I logged out and back in again in Firefox it shows up on Tuesday as well. This is in spite of the fact that it reads "every monday" in the date field.
I am in the Pacific timezone and I've confirmed that both my home and work computers have the exact same date/time settings.
You've said that you're in the Pacific timezone, but we've noticed in our database that your account is set up for the Eastern timezone.
Please go to Todoist's Settings -> General and set the Pacific time and let me know if it solves the issue.
I changed the setting to Pacific time as you suggested. Then I logged out and logged back in (using Chrome). When I logged back in there are two tasks that are listed under yesterday that were previously set to today. There are several tasks moved to tomorrow that were previously set to today.
Something has changed. I just created a new test task and entered "today" in the date field. When saved it showed up under today's date. I then checked the date field by editing the task and it showed today's date (January 17).
I then logged out and logged back in. None of the tasks previously scheduled for today jumped to tomorrow including the test task. However, the first test task that I created (scheduled for every monday) was still showing up under Tuesday in spite of the date field still reading "every monday"
I then created a NEW test task and scheduled it for "every monday." When I logged out and back in it showed up under Monday's date as you would expect.
Have we worked out the problem?
The issue should now indeed be fixed, but unfortunately, if you have tasks added in the past which were displaying incorrect dates, it may be necessary to change them manually. If the dates are the same for multiple tasks, you can use the multi-select feature (click on multiple tasks while holding the CTRL key). Sorry for the inconvenience.
