Projects list in Windows app
I'm considering switching from Nozbe to Todoist, but it appears that Nozbe still has a big advantage for me, which is that the projects list is static on the left, and allows me to click each project and quickly see tasks for that project on the right. Your web version seems to do this well, but the project list in the Windows app disappears when you click on a project. Is there any way to change this view in the Windows app?
As an aside, when I click on 'settings' in the Windows app, I'm switched to my browser (Firefox), which tries to open http://todoist.com/app?v=81#windowPref/general in a new tab, and then immediately moves to http://todoist.com/app?v=81#agenda/all. Any idea what's going on?
Finally (and I apologise that this is not relevant to the title), how does synching work with the Windows app? Can I reliably use it offline and expect it to quietly sync at the next opportunity?

Unfortunately, it's not possible to permanently display all projects in the Windows app.
As for the forwarding issue, please tell me - are you certain that the link redirects you to http or is it https? Also, do you have any HTTPS-forcing plugins installed in your browser?
The syncing is live. If you open the app while connected to the internet, you can then disconnect and continue to use it offline. You will see a small red triangle in the top-right corner indicating offline mode. You can click on it to force a sync, but it will also try to sync once in a while automatically.

Hmm. That seems like a strange limitation on the Windows app considering the website displays this way be default. I understand that Todoist uses HTML5 somewhere and I understand that HTML5 facilitates offline use of websites (you can tell I'm not a computer guy, right?!) - would it be possible for me to use the Todoist website offline and online, and therefore simply not use the Windows app at all?
The urls that I included in my post are copy-pasted from my browser address bar. However my browser (Firefox) doesn't actually display anything before the domain name (e.g., "http://" or "www." so I'm not sure - although when I copy-pasted, the "http://" appeared. The address page of this thread itself does display "https://", and copy-paste gives: https://todoist.com/Support/showQuestion/3378/) - therefore I think that (1) the browser only hides the 'normal' http and displays less normal https, and (2) I am indeed directed to an http address and not an https address.
I don't believe that I have any https-forcing plugins installed, but here is a list of plugins that I have installed that may do things that I'm less aware of:

To answer your first question - yes, you can use our web-app offline. If you disconnect from the internet while having it opened, you can continue to use it without an internet connection and also sync at a later time just as in the Windows app.
Reg. the limitation - it comes from the fact that across all our plugins and "stand-alone" apps, we use the Todoist mini version which is optimized to display in small windows: http://todoist.com/?mini=1
As fro the Settings issue - I can't reproduce it. Clicking on this link, opens Todoist in Firefox, I'm being redirected to http://todoist.com/app?v=81#start however this only redirects the page in the background, the Settings popup window is being opened regardless of the background URL. Please try to disable all add-ons in your browser and see if you can reproduce this issue. Then, try to enable one plugin at a time to see which one is causing this issue. It's possible that the "Adblock plus" plugin may block he settings popup window as it may think it's an advertisement popup.

Thanks for all your help so far. I might then just stick with the web version.
I still can't work out what's going on with the settings, though. I've disabled adblock plus and added an exception in my firefox settings to allow todoist.com to trigger popups - but still no luck. I'm not a computer guy but it's not clear to me why the settings for a Windows app would be affected by my web browser settings. Is this something to do with HTML5 and the gradual blur of local/saas clients?
Could you please try to go to the Settings manually, then on the "General settings" tab set the default start page to "Info page" and see if now you can get to the Settings directly from the Windows app?

Looks like you've cracked it - that worked fine. FYI, the default start page was set to "custom query". I don't know if/when I would have done this - possibly a couple of years ago when I last tried todoist. Now I also understand that the link was trying to open a web page, whereas I thought it would open settings for the Windows app itself.
Anyway, thanks for your help - problem solved!
