Can't Exit Windows Desktop Application

I cannot exit the windows application. If I press the "X" in the upper right corner of the window, it minimizes the window instead of terminating the application. If I right click on the icon in the task bar and select close window it does nothing. I can only terminate the application by starting task manager and force application termination.

I am running Windows 7 Ultamate 64 Bit.

Please help.....
