As I choose the date on a new task and choose to change the year (2013) and then choose the month (January) the program crashes and shuts down.

Hello Dimitris,
Thank you very much for your report, I've been able to reproduce this issue and I've passed it to the developers, we will fix this bug in the next update. Sorry for the inconvenience.
For now, as a workaround, please try to type the date/year manually to the due date field.
