How do I link duplicate tasks or associate one task with multiple projects?
I have some scenarios in which a single task benefits or is relevant to more than one project. How can I make the same task show up in multiple projects, or how can I create multiple tasks and "link" them so that marking one as complete automatically marks the other(s) as complete?

unfortunately, this can't be done. You can of course add multiple tasks with the same name to different projects, but they won't be linked.
Alternatively, you could mark tasks with similar significance with a label. Clicking on a label shows all tasks that have the same label attached to them across all projects. You could also try to rearrange your to-do list so that the task that occurs in different projects would actually be a separate project (or sub-project) and contain tasks named each after the former projects. For example, instead of having a new project representing a customer and then adding the same task into each project named "send an invoice", you could add an "invoicing" project and add all customers' names as tasks.
Of course, you're also welcome to add a request for such feature to our Votebox: http://todoist.com/Vote/
