Has CTRL-M for inserting a hard return been removed?
If so, how do I insert a hard return into an item?

Can I please suggest that this feature be added back in? Not having it in makes todoist much less useful for me. Adding sub-tasks or notes is more time consuming and less efficient. For a long time, todoist has allowed this function, and to remove it now seems very disrespectful of users
we're very sorry for the inconvenience. This feature has caused many complications in our system and in order to provide a stable system offering the best user experience, we've decided to remove this feature.
Still, we would greatly appreciate if you could post an example of situations when this feature was most useful for you and it may help us come up with a workaround.
I have typically used CTRL-M when I want to make a bullet point list of items related to a task, e.g.:
Draft notes for Event X:
- what purpose?
- what content?
CTRL-M is very useful in this case to format the task for quicker reading and greater usability generally. Without the line break, reading the task is more difficult and slower.
I rely on todoist extensively, and have used CTRL-M when making lists like this, or mini-sub-tasks where creating a proper sub-task is not worth the effort or time.
For myself personally, I do not really like the Notes feature as they are by default "invisible"; i.e. without clicking on the 'notes' balloon I cannot see what the notes for a particular task are. Often I want to review my to do list jut by glancing at it, & not have to click to expand sub-tasks or show notes.

I used that feature in the similar way. Please get it back or replace with other hot keys combination.

For now, as a workaround, you could simply add tasks such as:
Draft notes for Event X (purpose, content)
or even use text formatting to visually distinguish the sub-info within the task (for example Ctrl+i to quickly set the text to italic).

I also love todoist and would very much like to see the carraige return feature re-implemented. I really miss having it and this is the one issue that is getting in my way with using Todoist now.
For me, I often have notes that need to be formatted properly in order to be readable, but they are not themselves subtasks so I don't want to treat them as such. And as Martin suggested, in these cases using notes gets in the way as it's not easy to simply glance over the page to see the information.
As an example, I used to use the carriage returns so that I could insert a small chunk of code -- perhaps 2-3 lines -- as a reminder to myself about either how something needed to appear or as a placeholder for something I was in the middle of. Without carriage returns the code becomes an illegible chunk of text. If I insert it into a note then it is not readily viewable and I miss it.
I also wonder if your developers could perhaps assign more complicated key-stroke combination in order to avoid any issues with it in their database?
this shortcut has already been re-implemented into Todoist (both Ctrl+N and Ctrl+M). If it doesn't work in your browser, please log out, clear your browser's cache and offline storage data, reload the browser and log back in.
If this won't help, please tell me:
- Which browser are you using?
- Can you reproduce this issue in at least 1 other browser (if so - which one)?

This function should also be accessible with the hotkey shift + enter.
This would put it in line with Facebook... And everyone knows how to use facebook! It also makes a lot more sense in my opinion than ctrl + M/N.

Big thank you for Martin and Angie for raised the issue and obviously the todoist developer who implemented shortcuts.
I support Francis with adding hotkey (shift + enter). I would greatly appreciate this improvement. It speeds up typing because it's standard in MS Word, Notepad, Facebook etc.
