When I first began using your product I was able to create reoccuring events using your instructions. However, now each time I enter something like "last day of every month" or "23rd day of every month" it comes up as invalid date. I have tried to use verbage verbatim with your examples and still get the error message.

please refer to this list: https://todoist.com/Help/timeInsert to see all due date formats supported by Todoist. Note - they mostly can't be combined so please try using dates formatted the same way as seen on this list.
In order to set a task to every 23rd day of a month please use the following date format:
every 23 (or simply "ev 23")
If you want to add a task due every last day of the month, you can use:
every last day (or simply "ev lday").

Even if I copy and paste the example "Every second monday in a month", Todoist still says this is an invalid date. (I actually have a couple of tasks that I want to add for the first Monday and first Tuesday of the month).
unfortunately "Every second monday in a month" is not a supported due date format. Please refer to this list: https://todoist.com/Help/timeInsert to see all available date formats. The example you're referring to is the explanation of the date format which is listed on the left side. In this case it's:
You enter: every 2nd monday
Todoist understands: Every second monday in a month
Meaning - Todoist will understand the format "every 2nd monday" as every second monday in a month.

OK - fair enough - I mis-read the help box.
Having said that, a dialog box would be friendlier for occasional use (i.e. for those who haven't memorised the valid "natural" language constructions). I'm all for being able to type what you want when you know the correct construct for the phrase, but I seem to have to look this up every time I create a repeating task.
Google Calendar does it well, with a popup that allows you to pick Daily / Weekly / Monthly / Yearly, in multiples, on particular days of the week (or day of the month if monthly), with a start date and optional finish date (or occurrence count), which then gets summarised for you in plain language (e.g. Monthly on the first Monday, until 6 Jul 2015).
