depending tasks: link task start to other task finish

F

A good feature would be if a task start can be linked to some other task being finished.

For example, "pay carpenter bill" could be linked to "carpenter repairs veranda" with a "first saturday after 'carpenter repairs veranda' finish" setting.
This way "pay bill" would pop up in my to do list e.g. the next saturday after "carpenter repaired veranda" is checked off, as saturday is the day I have to do all my administrative tasks.

The advantage is, that I can make a complete plan up front without having to check if I have to set new dates for depending taks in between events. (this consumes so much time.)
A second advantage is, that my filter for tasks with no dates set, will exclude all depending tasks. This creates a lot more overview: now it only contains tasks that really dont have a plan date yet, and really need attention in order to get done.

Hi,

Thank you for the suggestion. This seems very similar to Next Actions and is something we will look into for future updates.

I agree, so many of the things that we do are a sequence.

The organization of projects could be used to group everything together which achieves a larger goal. For example, you could name a project "Veranda" and the order of the tasks would indicate their order of completion.

[ ]Veranda
[X] Submit work plan to multiple contractors for quotes
[X] Select best suited contractor
[ ] Carpenter repairs Veranda
[ ] Pay Carpenter

Thanks,

Agreed, similar to 'next actions', but definitely not the same!

Anyway, I'm sure this feature would be appreciated by many.

Actually, the lack of dependencies is what prevents me from switching to Todoist Premium from MLO.
Been waiting for this for ages...
Please!!!

+1 for this but I'd rather have some sort of a "jump to project" feature. To use fgjzoet's example, above, after you check off "carpenter repairs veranda", have Todoists offer to jump or take you to where that task was (in this case the Veranda project) so you can easily select which task to do next. It's not automatic like linking everything in advance but ToDoMatrix (Blackberry) let you link everything but on large projects, you would find completing one task would would trigger another, like you planned, but there would always be some new issue with that project you had to address before moving on and fitting that in and cleaning up the task linking became time consuming. With how Todoist already lets you drag and drop tasks in any order you want, you could drag the next few tasks toward the top to make it easy to pick from and use a jump to project feature to select which one.
