Sync - adding items back as open that closed 6 days ago

I have installed on Ubuntu chrome, windows chrome and firefox, ipad and iphone, windows desktop app, I had my activities cleared, no overdue items, all of a sudden my karma starts going down because I have items 4 days overdue. Well, I haven't had any overdue items for 2 or three days. I have logged out of everything, removed the extensions from the browsers, cleared the app cache on the desktop, log out of the browsers, cleared browsing data to end of time, log back in, still shows overdue 8 days ago in the desktop app. The only additional item is I changed passwords last night. On the iPad, I setup a filter to show overdue items, nothing shows up! I look for the closed ticket on the iPad that shows as overdue on the desktop, not there. syncing issue somewhere but not sure exactly where.

In the deslktop app where is usually shows what project it is under, it show a green undefined. One of the tasks is recurring, one has date and time, all 4 tasks have one or more labels.

I tried to edit the tasks that showed as undefined, no go, couldn't change dates. I edited a good task, changed the date, an magic, all the overdue dates have disappeared. I can't find them as completed tasks either, they are gone! And my Karma has still taken a 20 point hit. (NOT a big deal, just an observation)

Hello,

Please go to C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Todoist\Windows, delete the "Cache" folder here and see if it helps.

I did that. No change. The only thing that worked was editing an existing todo, which magically made the old todo items disappear.

Happened again today. Yesterday I had everything cleaned up, no outstanding tasks. Login to the desktop app this morning, shows NO outstanding tasks, look at my karma and I have another -10 and outstanding tasks. I close the desktop app, quitting it completely, and login to the web. On the web are the overdue tasks again. I edit one good task and change the date, the overdue tasks disappear.

Happened again. I'm working in the desktop app, every thing looks good. I sync manually sync, completely quite the application, and login to the web. I see overdue items AGAIN. I edit a good item, the overdue items disappear again. This is getting annoying.

Happened again, this time in reverse. I was working solely on the web site, logged out, logged in with the desktop app and the over due items show up. I can edit an item and they disappear. I can logout of the desktop app, login to the the website, and the overdue items appear, edit a task, and they go away.

Hi,

Can you try re-installing the Windows app? Looks like the issue still persist after clearing the cache.

How would that resolve anything? I haven't been in the desktop client for 2 days, I signed into the web app on by ubuntu machine this morning, the items appear, and then disappear when working on real items. I switched to my windows machine, signon to the web app, and same issue, and they disappear when editing a current todo item.

Please tell me, have you tried clearing Todoist's local data on all platforms? That is - in every browser you've used to access it?

Note - clearing the cache automatically will not delete Todoist's local data which needs to be removed manually.

I have cleared all the cache from the browsers, deleted again the cache from the desktop app, deleted the app and re-installed on the iPhone, used battery doctor to clear up old and temp files on the iPad, issue still occurred. The moment I started doing things to active items, old items disappear.

This is very unusual and so far we can't reproduce this on any platform :-(

That said, please tell me - how many tasks do you have on your account? And also, could you please try to create a new Todoist account just to confirm in the issue persists if you're logged into a different account (which would point to an issue in the app itself) or not (which would point into an issue in the database with the specific account)?

here's what I see:
-1 is when I go into for the first time, either the web app or the desktop app.
I edit one item and save
-2 shows all those overdue items gone.

I don't know if I have time to create another account and work the issue.  I'll see what I can do.
I'll let you count how many items I currently have.

 There are 486 completed items.

Thank you for the screenshots, this looks exactly like a caching issue which we can even reproduce. It can happen if you leave a shared project. It will then keep the tasks from the shared project in the local storage until you reload the page or, if it persists after that, delete the local storage.

This is the first time that this would continue to happen after the local storage/cache is cleared :-( Could you try to just log out on all devices and then log back in? But not one after another, but so that at one point you're not logged in anywhere.

David

I deleted the app off my iPad and iPhone, removed any extensions from the browsers, outlook, cleared the cache, uninstalled the desktop application. I logged into the web application, it still happened. I edited an item, logged off, cleared the cache, logged back in, the overdue items were back. I did this two times. I went to the only project I have shared, where the share I requested was still pending. I removed the share, logged out, back in. So far the issue has not returned.

I'm guessing that removing the pending share has resolved the issue. I've logged in using browsers on different systems, re-installed on the iPhone and iPad, re-installed the desktop app, logged in and out, and the issue has NOT re-occured.

I've gone in and added dates for nearly every task I have, and edited existing dates. Still subtracts. sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't, which sounds like a sync issue, but I don't know where it's happening.

I believe this is completely independant of browsers. I can't see karma on the iOS devices, but looking at things from either the windows browsers or the Ubuntu browser, I see the karma deductions.

Hello,

We strongly suspect the iOS app to be the culprit as we've got other reports about sync issues in the current version and could reproduce some of them. The new version will have most of the sync-related code rewritten and we hope this will address all these issues.

We're in the process of submitting it to the Apple store so it may be available within one or few weeks (depending on if and how many times it will be rejected).

Sync cannot be working with the iPad. I was able through a lot of deleting/re-installing, to at least get the offending items to show (42 days overdue!)

I delete the app, re-install it, and the app shows 10 items before I even put my account information in.

I try and edit one of the offending items, initiall starting with the date - crashed
Then I tried editing the title, try and click done, it shows error, need to add project

I try and add project, doesn't show
click on project again, project does show, click done, it crashes.

I can repeat this scenario over and over.

I was able to get one item to delete, possibly because it was a recurring object which is still valid.

ANd I say it's not syncing, because the iPad shows Inbox 7/today 9, while the web and Windows app show 7/6 - so the iPad accounts for the three overdue items, the web/windows client do not.

Update: Sync is flaky. I can add item from windows, it syncs to ipad, I can delete that item, it syncs back to win.

I go into overdue item, add note, doesn't crash app. I go into item, in item, add project, project is added into iPad app, and sync to windows, say don in task, crashes app, going back in, item does NOT have project, but project is in iPad app and on win app.

According to our developers there are 514 overdue tasks in your account, 277 of them in the Inbox. The first Inbox task is dated Aug 1, the last one is dated for Sep 9. Deleting them should solve this issue. Please confirm - if you delete any of these overdue tasks, do they automatically reappear?

I don't think I see anything unusual in the web app. None of the old overdue tasks show. Its stopped deducting 10 points from my karma. Over the last couple days, I had zero increase which is probably accurate, and no deductions. I don' currently have the app installed on my iPad or iPhone.

Looking at the windows app today, something seems to be funny with the karma.
It says my Karma is at 6328, but the latest updates say 6308. This is in the app, not the web,

Just updated, it looks like my system wasn't showing an update that contributed to the total. I see there has been an update since I last looked, and now the karma matches the Latest update. Kind of weird. I have a screenshot if you really want to see it. Maybe it was just an anomaly.

Just to make sure I understand the scenario correctly, you don't see any overdue tasks in the web but if you access Todoist in the iOS app, you see those tasks there?

Have you tried completing those tasks within the app? Does it get rid of those tasks?

That is correct, I see them only on the iPad. If I try and close them, the app crashes. Every time.

David Trey staff
Replied on Sep 25, 2014 - 12:03

Hello,

This is almost impossible that you can see them after a complete reinstallation (deleting then installing) of the app :-( The app can either store data locally (for offline access) or load it from the server. If you delete the app from the iPad, all local cache is deleted along with it, if you then install it again, it's forced to download all the data from the server which would suggest that these tasks are on the server (but we have deleted them there manually)... however, if they were on the server, you would have to see them on any other platform.

I will pass it to the developers again and ask them once again to delete ALL overdue tasks on your account. Once that's done, we can guarantee that none of them are on our server and a reinstallation of the app will have to fix this, there's technically no other way.

Regards,
David

I would agree. Except it's what I see. I'm always puzzled how after I uninstall the app and reinstall it, it comes up with a number on the icon before I even log in the first time. That tells me it's not clearing everything from a cache or cookie, and references that value even before I login to the app. Perhaps it's grabbing something from a web cache. I don't recall clearing the web cache on the browser in between deleting/re-installing the iOS app. Perhaps they are somehow sharing data.

OK, we won't delete anything yet. We believe you that you see this, of course, but we're also unsure why or how this is happening. Although some of the code of the app may be complex, the part handling the deletion is actually very simple.

Are you using iCloud? In iOS 8, when you go to Settings -> Usage, you should see "Storage" and "iCloud", please check if there is no Todoist data in the iCloud part and if so - delete it, then log out from the Todoist app, then delete the app itself throught the "Storage" menu and see if it helps.

If this won't help either, as an experiment, please try to create a new Todoist account with a different email address. Log into it on the iPad, delete the app while you're logged into this other account and after reinstalling it, log into your regular account.

David
