iPad App Not Updating Properly

GK

My iOS app (iPad) has looked off for either a few days or possibly longer (I've just moved and everything is off-kilter right now). I finally verified it this evening against my Chrome desktop app that I use both at home and work on desktop computers. The iOS app is not updating certain tasks from yesterday ... which has been the case each time it has seemed off. For instance, I have moved tasks forward or marked them as complete and they are still showing up as though I have neglected to address them at all. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi,

In cases like this, it's best to log out and log back in first. This typically resolves any sync related issues. If that doesn't work, make sure that you're running the latest version of the iOS app. Let me know if the issue still persists after.

Clyde

I logged out and in before contacting you - sorry, I should have mentioned
that. And yes, I'm running the latest version. I've never encountered
this, but it's confusing because you begin questioning yourself when you're
certain certain tasks were already completed or adjusted. Do you have any
other ideas as to what the problem may be?

Hello,

Please tell me - are you allowing our iOS app to use "App Background Refresh" in iOS?

We will also soon release an update to the iOS app with many improvements to the syncing system which should address this issue.

David

Not sure about the question, David. I'll have to check when I am at home.
Something else weird is happening now - the Chrome app that I'm using on my
work desktop is now mirroring my iPhone, which looks the same as my iPad
did last night. So let me just check everything again today and then
tonight at home to see which one is off and go from there. Thanks for your
guidance.

Definitely a problem. I use my Chrome app at work to clean up/out and left
it with four remaining tasks (one a recurring from a few days ago and three
from today). Now at home my Chrome app shows 16 total, including the older
recurring - don't know what the fourth was. Both my iPad and iPhone also
show a total of 16 messages. The older ones cleared, but all from
yesterday are still there. I also signed in using both Firefox and IE and
they all show 16. Soooo, it seems that the issue may be my Chrome app?

I have been in the process of moving, and have by default fallen behind at
times in my daily Todoist cleaning duties. But not to any odd degree. The
only "odd" thing that I can think of is that once (I think at Christmas)
when I traveled to another time zone I did NOT allow Todoist to change to
reflect where I was. I ran into an issue with tasks appearing on wrong
days and was told (here) that I should always allow it to do so, so I did
at the beginning of July when I traveled out west. I don't think this
issue has been going on that long - definitely over perhaps a week or so,
but I suppose it's possible. As I said, everything in my world has been
pretty upside down since I returned. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi,

Can you please try clearing the cache of Chrome to ensure that it's not that's causing the issue? Also, please try logging out and back in of the extension also.

Just to confirm, is the iOS app set to use "App Background Refresh"?

One more thing, once you've logged out to everything and cleared the cache, can you please do the following test:

1. Create a task in the web. Does it sync to your iPhone?
2. Create a task in iPhone. Does it sync to the web?

Please let me know how it goes.

Clyde

I did nothing and all locations seems to be in agreement with each other as
of last evening. I'm not going to wonder why. :) I truly appreciate your
help.

Trouble yet again. I made many changes at work today using the Todoist app
on Chrome, completed tasks, altered tasks, etc. Now am home and they are
not reflected on my home computer (also Chrome app) after refreshing, nor
on Firefox nor IE, nor on my Apple devices. I'm exasperated.

Hi,

Sorry to hear that you're getting sync issues. Can you please tell me where the tasks that have the problem were created? Unfortunately, we can't replicate this issue so there might be a specific scenario where it gets triggered. Any additional info will help us find and fix the issue faster.

Really sorry for the inconvenience.

Clyde

Likely all created on Chrome app. The one on my work computer seems to be
the culprit ... maybe, I think - who knows? Would it help to reinstall? I
honestly can't go forward if all of my work is for nothing. I can't even
remember all of the things that I did yesterday, and any new tasks won't
even show up as it's like I never touched it. Let me know if you have any
other thoughts, please.

Hi,

Are you talking about the Chrome app extension? If you are, please try re-installing it. Also try clearing the cache of Chrome by going to Advanced Settings -> Content Settings -> All cookies and site data, search for "todoist" there (there's a search box in the top-right) and delete all Todoist-based entries that you'll see.

Before you do the steps though, make sure to create a manual backup of your data just so we know we can get it later if lose something in the process.

Clyde

The cache on that computer - yes, the Chrome Todoist app - is cleared every
day when I leave work. "Click & Clean" and several days each week I clear
it with CCleaner.

Hi,

Using the same step that I shared with you? I'm not familiar with "Click & Clean" so I'm not sure if that would include the cache in Chrome. Can you please try doing it manually this time to see if we have better success with it?

Clyde

FYI - I uninstalled the Chrome app entirely and simply saved Todoist as a
favorite. It seems to have fixed the issues I was encountering, and it's
really no more difficult to access. Fingers crossed that all stays well -
that was not fun. Thanks again for the assist.

I'm having a similar problem to G Klein. My iOS (iPhone 4s) doesn't sync perfectly with my web app, where I make most of my changes. There are two consistent problems:

1) My iOS app does not reflect changes in order made to my Today list

2) My iOS leaves tasks on my "1 day ago" list which have already been marked as complete in the web app.

I noticed you had asked G Klein to make sure that background sync is turned on - how do I do that?

Thanks for your help!!! (love love love the product)

Heather,

You can find those in your iOS settings area. Before doing so, which iOS version are you running?
