Location Selection Issue Mumbai

I live in Mumbai, India.

While selecting the Location, Mumbai is not being saved.

As per my time zone (GMT +0530) Asia/ Mumbai is an available option but it goes to Default Asia/ Calcutta.

Even though the Calcutta has the same timing as with Mumbai. (its still 3000 kms away)

Hi Kamran,

Are you referring to the Timezone location setting? I'd suggest changing to an entirely different timezone, then select Mumbai.

Regards,
Brendon.

I did changed the Timezone to US Mountain timing & then switched back to select Mumbai.

Unfortunately it sets back to Asia/ Calcutta again. ^_^

Kamran,

We have seen this before, and are not sure why it happens. Sadly, with it being such a minor issue, its unlikely to get fixed. As you are technically on the correct timezone.

I'd check your desktop settings, and any mobile device settings to make sure they are set to Mumbai.

Regards,
Brendon.

All my settings are configured for my City.

As you know, I had signed up for a Test account.
I did selected Asia/ Mumbai & it rolled back to Asia/ Calcutta

Kamran,

As mentioned, this has happened before, though not often, but we do not know why it happens, and its almost impossible to reproduce. We will look into it, but as it being a minor issue, this can take time, if at all.

Brendon.

Kamran,

Is there an actual time difference between Mumbai & Calcutta? As I don't think this can easily be changed, we have seen it before where they are the same, but it will not choose a different one based on name.

Brendon

No there's No difference in the timezone between Mumbai & Calcutta.
However, they are like 3000 kms away from each other.

If this has to be this way, then why the need to add Mumbai into the list ?
Not just Mumbai, there's more cities from India.

Kamran,

I believe many of these details are grabbed from a general list, and or related to the system itself, but we will see if this can be improved in the future.

Hi Kamran

I have gone through this string, and felt that your question is pertaining to the "Likeliness" and aesthetics , rather than issues with the time zone itself. There are so many programs in this world, where the time zones are pulled up from a single database. For instance in many Mozilla programs like Thunderbird, the time zone can be set to Dilli [thats New delhi] , so no matter how hard you try the time zone cant be changed to a particular city in india. as the time zone for India, from NE states till Rajasthan is same, it really doesnt matter where or which city you are in.....it will always work with GMT +5:30 hrs.I dont know if its not "aesthetically" appealing to you, but its entirely OK. In US too there are so many time zones, so you cant practically pick your own city , because the database would be same......in US too, the time zones are like EST, CST etc. without any particular names added.....if the programmers make the list according to the cities, the database would be huge....infact mammoth in size. i dont think unless there is a change in time zone, there seems to be any need to push the program to show Mumbai. I know its 3000km away, but does it really matter when the time zone is same? aesthetically, there could be a million things.....but sometimes eye appealing things doesnt work. :-) :-)

Well Kuldeep, there wan't any need to write that much for me.

I understand the concept of Timezones in India & for the US Region.

Point is, if theres wasn't any need intention to Show Mumbai, New Delhi.. then Y pulling that from the Database also?

Lots of other websites just show the Timezones as..

Asia / Kabul
Asia / Islamabad
Asia / Kolkata

This makes sense right?
Then Y not this way?

I know, its not a big issue, but if it showing as a Option for Asia / Mumbai.
then I want Mumbai as my most preferred choice. ;-)

well, thats what i said Abdul. Aesthetics. i have been a big fan of that too.But if its not working, lets give them a chance. if it aint working, let it be for sometime. looking at common time zone wont hurt either. ;-)
