Issue with iPhone App

The latest version of Todoist for the iPhone has been acting weird for me. It will sometimes freeze up for up to a minute when I complete a task, update a task, or sync. I've been unable to reproduce it consistently, however.

Another issue I've noticed is the task names not displaying when switching between the Today and Next 7 Days views. All other info for the task will display, just not the names. Again, I haven't been able to reproduce this consistently.

I've uninstalled and re-installed the app and that has not fixed it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi Brad,

Unfortunately without being able to 100% reproduce it, it becomes quite hard to find the cause of the issue. As of what I have tested, I have not been able to do so.

I would suggest logging out and back in, but if you have already re-installed, then its unlikely this will help.

Regards,
Brendon.

I am having a similar issue. It started a little over a month ago. The app seems to get hung up trying to sync, especially when I try to schedule a task for a different date or if I have just created a new task. The only thing that seems to get it un-stuck is closing out the app and opening it again. Todoist *was* a great app until this started happening. Now I am really close to deleting it and moving on to another to-do app, but thought I would come here first. Help!

Which iPhone do you have, and what version of iOS are you running? I haven't experienced any issues with Todoist, but have on other apps.

I didn't have any luck when I uninstalled and reinstalled the applications. What worked for me was shutting down my phone and restarting it. Simply doing that fixed the memory glitches that I was having in multiple applications. I do that maybe once every month or so. I'm running the latest version of iOS 7 on a iPhone 5s, but even did something similar on my work iPhone 5.

Curious to see if that helps you.

Paulo,

So the suggestions above in this thread have not helped? There is an update coming that should resolve all of them though.

Hey trhall:

I am running OS 7.1.2 and todoist 8.4.1. I have done a shut down/reset of my iphone, but that did not resolve the issue. I have not uninstalled and reinstalled the app, but based on yours and other comments I have read here, I am doubtful that will help. :-(

Hi,

What device are you using? Can you please write the steps to replicate the problem so we can confirm it and report it to our developers?

I have an iPhone 5. As Brad Ames described, the issue is frequent but intermittent. It has happened to me when adding new tasks, changing the priority of a task, and rescheduling a task, but it most commonly happens with rescheduling:

I have a task I have already created. I click the schedule icon to move it from "today" to some other day (usually tomorrow or maybe a few days out). I click "done" and the app exits the schedule dialog box, but the task stays listed for "today". If I attempt the same steps again, it will continue not updating. However, if I close completely out of the app and then go back in, it will have updated, changing the task due date from today to whatever new day I originally selected.

I have also had the same issue with creating new tasks. In that case, if I try it twice and then exit, I will have 2 tasks created when I restart the app.

Not sure it matters, but I pretty much always use todoist in the "7 day" view. My recollection is that I had this issue much less frequently before the latest iPhone update and could remedy it by switching to the "indox" view and then back to the "7 day" view. However, since the new OS release, that doesn't seem to work. Now I have to exit completely out of the app (and it is also happening a LOT more often than it did before).

Also, not sure it matters, but I suspect it is a syncing issue because often (although not every time) when it gets "hung up" and won't reschedule one of my to dos, I notice that the little sync icon just sits there and spins and spins and spins (until I close out the app). I have waited over a minute before and it still didn't update*. Also, if I restart the app very quickly (as in, go to the iPhone home screen, swipe up to close the app, and then immediately reopen it), it will still be hung up. If I exit it, I would say I have to wait at least 20 seconds to be sure it will be properly synced/updated when I go back in.

*I have also taken the strategy of noticing todoist isn't updating and saying "screw it" and moving on to doing something else with my phone (without closing out the app). I did this last night because I had some tasks I wanted to reschedule for "tomorrow", but I knew it wouldn't be a big deal if they were still left on "yesterday" when I woke up in the morning. Strangely, when I woke up this morning the app was working normally, and letting me reschedule some other to dos; however, it never actually rescheduled the ones I had asked it to reschedule last night - they were listed for "yesterday" like I had never tried to reschedule them.

Hello,

Thank you very much for your feedback, we'll release a new version of our app very soon which will have significant changes in the syncing process, we've rewritten it almost from scratch and it should be much more reliable in the next version.

Please let us know, once it's out, if the issue will persist after the next update.

Regards,
David

David,

Do you have a release date? I live by my to do list, and I've been through 10-15 task list apps between android and iPhone. I dumped all the others for being buggy and/or lacking features I needed. I am *very* close to doing the same with todoist.

Unfortunately, we never have a release date, especially not on iOS. We hope to submit it to the store this week, but then there's of course Apple's approval process which is not predictable and based on if or how many times we get rejected, it may take one or more weeks before it's available on the store.

David

I have the same problem:
IOS 7.1.2 iPad
App 8.4.1
I loved the service and was going to upgrade but this issue has stopped me. I hope it will be fixed before it really gets on my nerve.

Hi Yulia,

Let's wait for the update that we're about to release. As David mentioned, this will include significant changes in the syncing process. If that still doesn't help at all, please let us know. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Clyde

@dreamlandjunkie - Thanks for replying. Sorry that didn't help. I can totally understand why this would be frustrating. I'll be watching this thread with interest once the new release comes out to see if it resolves the issue for everyone. I haven't yet experienced an issue like this, but I hate issues of this nature I've seen in other apps. Would hate it for my task app for sure.
