Location-based alarms not working

DH

I've installed Todoist on my iPhone and Macbook for the first time. I chose to go with the 30 day trial period to get alarms and make sure the functionality I need is there. However, no matter which device I use to set my location-based alarm, the alarm isn't being triggered on my phone. I created a test event this morning for when I arrive at a location. When I got to the location, nothing happened. I then went in and added an alarm for when I leave that location. Again, nothing happened when I left.

Is there something I can do to troubleshoot or is this functionality still not quite working the way it should be as it's new? I love everything about the app but I really need location-based alarms to work before I can commit to becoming a premium member.

Please advise when you get a chance.

Thanks!

Hello Damon,

Please tell me - did you allow Todoist to send you notifications in your phone's settings and are you connected to the internet when setting this up and when arriving or leaving the specified location?

Best regards,
David

Hi, David...

I definitely have it set to send notifications (See attached file) and I was definitely connected to the internet at the time. It's on the LTE network of course but definitely connected. I see the hollow GPS arrow icon in the upper right-hand corner as well.

Damon,

Let me know your iOS version, if you are jailbroken or anything such as this. We are looking into it.

Brendon.

Brendon,

Thanks for the response. I am not using a jailbroken iPhone or anything like that. It's just the straight stock phone. The software version is 7.1.2 (11D257).

Thanks!

Damon,

Just to clarify - did you set the reminder to a location that's at least a full 100 meters away from the location you were at that time? These services are always accurate within a radius of roughly 100m so if the target location was not too far away, it might have not worked because of that.

Best regards,
David

David,

Yes, I actually tried it both ways like I said earlier. I chose my house while I was at work with a test event for when I arrive. When I got home, no notification. I also tried an event where I was in a store, I set the alarm for when I departed the store I was in. After a mile or two, still nothing.

Thanks for the clarification on the radius. I was curious what the default was and/or if that could be adjusted. 100m is more than adequate for me though.

Thanks,
Damon

I saw this post after I posted a similar issue. I have been premium for over and year and I am not receiving the location based notifications. (Actually...I don't think I have received any since the last update). I am currently 15 miles away from my "alert when leaving" location and have received no notification.

I live todoist and very excited about this new feature.

How i configure how much miles to todoist works well? I am not receiving the location based notifications. I added remimbers to when i arrive in supermerket. I have gonne to the supermarket for 3 times a day, but didn't receive neither notification.

I used iPhone 4s without jailbrake. IOS 7.1.2

Hi Emanoel,

The location reminder should work on a 100m radius. Can you try creating other location reminders from other venues and see if that works? I suggest to try creating one for your home location.

Clyde

Clyde. What else needs to be done to get the location based notifications. Mine are still not working. I have uninstalled the app, logged out and in, power off my iphone 5 and still nothing. I just set up a test for when I leave my house and I am about 5 miles from my house and I did not receive a "when leaving" notification.

I created 2 tasks for my home, 2 for my work and 2 for the supermaket. One arriving and other leaving...
All remimbers don't work...

I should like to throw my apple in the bucket as well… No location-based alerts for me either, on iOS 7.1.2, despite having flipped all the aforementioned switches many times over, and picked locations well over 100 m apart.

Hi all,

We've brought this up with our developers and unfortunately, still, we can't replicate the issue. There's a test what we can do though to determine if it's the app that's not working properly or a device setting/problem that we need to look into.

The built in Reminders app has the same location reminder functionality. You can create a test task in here by following these steps and set a location reminder:

http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/how-to-adjust-geofencing-in-reminders-for-iphone-and-ipad

Do the same thing in Todoist with the same location and same behaviour (arriving/leaving). Test it and see if any of the two apps works. So here are the possible results and what they could mean:

1. Reminders and Todoist does not work = There must be some sort of setting that's preventing it from working properly. It could also be a device related issue.

2. Reminders work and Todoist does not = I'll go back report back to our developers so we can notify them about the result. If it works in one app, there's no reason that I can see why it wouldn't work in the Todoist iOS app.

We're hoping that we'll get more information based on the results. For these types of problem, getting additional information helps in figuring out what the problem is.

Really sorry for the inconvenience.

Regards,

Clyde

Any clues.

Hi Clyde,

I followed the instructions as noted and set up a test using the Reminders app as well as Todoist. I received the Reminders app notification, however, did not receive the todoist location notification. I have attached pictures for your review. One thing I noticed is for the reminders app I did not have to enter a date and for todoist I did (which I want to do).

Thanks,
Angela

Hi,

We have found a major issue with the location reminders and we are pushing the update as soon as possible. I believe this will be fixed when that happens.

Brendon.

I noticed yesterday there was an ios update. Even though you did not indicate it would fix this issue I thought I would test it this morning.

Just wanted to let you knot that it did not (just in case this was suppose to be the update) .

Hi Angela,

Can you please confirm if you're running version 8.4.1? If this still doesn't work, you will need to logout of the app and log back in again for it to fully take effect. Let me know if it still doesn't work after that.

Clyde

Is the "major issue" for both iOS and Android? And is there a tentative timeframe on the fix?

Hi Chris,

The reported cases here are for iOS only. We're issuing an update that will address this issue and should be available in version 8.4.1. Make sure to log out and log back in before you do a test. If the problem still persist after, please let us know.

Clyde

Wanted to let you know the location notification is working on my ipad but not on my iphone. That leads me to believe now the issue is with my phone. I will try a couple of things and hope that helps.

Thanks for your assistance.

Still not working for me. I have 8.4.1 and did try to log out and in. I even reindtalled todoist but still do not work. Location functions on other apps like reminder are working perfectly.

Tarik...verify if you have Background App Refresh on.

I was having the same issue on my phone, but my iPad was working correctly. The only difference was the Background App Refresh. Once I turned on the Background App Refresh it worked perfectly.

Is the fix for this problem already released? I have the same issue, that the location based reminders are not working. Background App refresh & messages for the App are activated.
I have the 8.4.1. ToDoist installed and the newest iOS 7 which is available.

Hi Florian,

We have an upcoming update to our iOS app that's currently pending Apple's approval. Once it's available, please update to it and do another test for your location based reminders again.

Really sorry for the inconvenience.
